Description
This is a rare live recording of Corky Laing’s All-Stars, a band formed in June 1988 by former Mountain drummer Corky Laing and Mick Taylor. Taylor was extremely active that year, playing with Dickey Betts, Jack Bruce, Grateful Dead, Joe Walsh, and others, and this live performance shows him at his best. The performance itself is divided into 1st and 2nd shows, but the songs are all different and very varied. First of all, the title song, “Leather Jacket,” is a popular song that Taylor wrote while he was in the Stones and completed on his first solo album, a classic that he has not played much in recent years. As for the Stones, they play many rare songs that you can’t hear anywhere else, such as “Hi-Heel Sneakers,” “Money,” “Honky Tonk Women,” “Can’t You Hear Me Knocking,” and Cream-related songs “Politican,” “Crossroads,” “Born Under Bad Sign,” and “Sunshine Of Your Love,” Joe Walsh’s “Rocky Mountain Way,” “Lucille” covered by Animals, Deep Purple, and Gillan, and Mountain’s “Theme From An Imaginary Western” and “Mississippi Queen.” Since the band is mainly made up of rhythm section members, including drummer Corky Laing, Taylor is always at the forefront and takes the lead, but even when he plays rhythm, he plays aggressively. This is especially evident in the up-tempo “Crossroads” and the slow ballad “Theme From An Imaginary Western,” where you can enjoy Taylor’s unique runaway guitar. “Lucille” and “Rocky Mountain Way” feature heavy riffs and solos. The exchanges with the rhythm section seem to be inspired by Cream, and the performance is intense. As for the sound quality, the vocals are generally off, but this is probably due to the PA at the venue at the time, and the performance is of the highest quality. This is a complete recording of a live performance held in Bridgeport, Connecticut on June 4, 1988 by Corky Laing of Mountain, Mark Clark and Mick Taylor of former Mountain Heap Tempest.
