Description
In 2015, Michael Schenker started a new project, TEMPLE OF ROCK (hereinafter referred to as TOR), and was striving for a full-fledged comeback. The best live set is now available. There are two performances recorded in this work. This is a 4-disc set with two discs each containing full audience recordings of “April 17, 2015 Newton Performance” and “April 20 Sellersville Performance”. Speaking of 2015, not only is the official live album “ON A MISSION: LIVE IN MADRID” left behind, but also the miraculous re-co-starring with Graham Bonnet. It was also the year that the seeds of what is now MICHAEL SCHENKER FEST (hereinafter referred to as MSF) were born. First of all, let’s check the show’s position from its history ・January 22nd: 70,000 TONS OF METAL CRUISE appearance [“SPIRIT ON A MISSION” released on March 4th] ・March 29th – May 6th: North America (27 performances) ←★Coco★・May 23rd-25th: Europe #1 (3 performances)・June 14th-19th: Japan (5 performances)・June 27th-August 8th: Europe #2 (5 performances) October 22nd – December 5th: Europe #3 (33 performances) ← *Official LIVE IN MADRID This is Michael Schenker in 2015. A world tour was held, including a visit to Japan in conjunction with GRAHAM BONNET BAND, but the main ones were a North American tour immediately after the release of the album and a European tour in the fall. The official live album was a record of the European tour, but the two performances of this work were the 13th and 16th performances of the “North American” leg. This work recorded at such a show is truly the best audience recording. This master was released just before I came to Japan in 2015, and the high quality of the sound made it a hot topic, with people saying, “Even if you don’t have the new studio version, you can still prepare for it!” It was moderate. After all, it’s a live version of the song I’m hearing for the first time, so it’s difficult to enjoy it even if the sound isn’t very good. However, the 100-point perfect sound of this work fulfilled its role to a great extent. In fact, even after 5 years, it still sounds overwhelming. Although it is definitely an audience recording, the sound quality is at a level that makes even the distinction “sound board or audience?” meaningless. Not only is it a club-sized, up-to-date sound, but perhaps because of the high customer base, there is no fuss, and only the band’s ensemble makes you think, “This is it!” In particular, “Sellersville Performance (Disc 3-4)” is so amazing that you would want to call it an “official class audience”. Of course, nowadays there is no longer a need for a “preparation board”, but that does not mean (of course) that this high sound quality is diminished. What’s more, the more you listen to it, the more the reality that is unique to audience recording gradually oozes out, which is also delicious. The show drawn with that sound is similar to the official version “LIVE IN MADRID” but is different. The two performances of this work are the same set due to their close dates, so let’s organize them together. Classics (11 songs)・Phenomenon: Doctor Doctor/Rock Bottom・Force It; Let It Roll (★)・No Heavy Petting: Natural Thing・New Murderous Intent: Lights Out・Lovedrive: Lovedrive/Coast To Coast/Another Piece Of Meat (★) / Holiday (★)・God: Victim Of Illusion / Armed And Ready (★) TEMPLE OF ROCK (5 songs)・TEMPLE OF ROCK: Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead・BRIDGE THE GAP: Where The Wild Winds Blow/Lord Of The Lost And Lonely・SPIRIT ON A MISSION: Live And Let Live/Vigilante Man Other SCORPIONS covers (2 songs)・Blackout “Scorpion Palace” / Rock You Like A Hurricane “Forbidden Tattoo” *Note: “ ★” marks are songs that cannot be heard on the official edition “ON A MISSION: LIVE IN MADRID”. …and it looks like this. The set, which includes famous songs by UFO, MSG, and TOR, is similar to the current MSF, but SCORPIONS’ large-scale performance is refreshing. In particular, “Blackout” and “Rock You Like A Hurricane”, in which Michael did not participate in the original, are unique to TOR with Herman Larebel & Francis Buchholz. And Dougie White. In fact, his SCORPIONS number is not as good as Robin McCauley, who was talked about as “just like Klaus,” but his flexibility in handling such a wide range of repertoire is truly a work of experience. What’s a little interesting about this movie is the scene where they wait for the encore. The set ends with a passionate performance of “Rock Bottom” that lasts for 13 minutes… but the dressing room is small and the band remains on stage. It seems that only Herman Larebel was back in the dressing room, and the “Herman Call” occurs. It feels like the space of the venue has been cut out as it is! This is a real live album that goes beyond just studying and can be enjoyed over and over again. The following year, in 2016, MSF was launched and TOR completed its role. Although it has now become a page of history, it was undoubtedly TOR that brought Michael back to the forefront of the scene. And, there was a god who was playing the Flying V lively for the first time in a long time, and a valuable show with a big SCORPIONS number was unfolded. A big 4-disc set where you can enjoy two full shows of TOR, which was special even in their long career, with the best sound. Newton Theater, Newton, NJ.
