Description

From Michael Schenker’s latest US tour of “TEMPLE OF ROCK”, two live shows are packaged with the best audience sound, a must-listen for fans! Michael’s 2012 tour, which used different vocalists for each tour, has definitive items for each of the first leg of the North American tour in February and the Japan performance in March. This work will please all Schenker fans as an item representing the second leg of the North American tour, along with those. The live performances of “TEMPLE OF ROCK” announced by Michael under his solo name, in which different vocalists were used for each region of the tour, became a topic of conversation among fans for its unusual style. Naturally, the vocals at the front were mainly members who participated in the album. Robin McAuley participated in the first leg of the US tour in February, Michael Voss, who was the main vocalist on the album, participated in the Japan performance in March, and Doogie White participated in the European tour from April onwards. However, on the second leg of the North American tour that started on October 3rd, the only vocalist who did not participate in the album was to take the lead. That singer was David Van Landing. When “WRITTEN IN THE SAND” was released, he was the main singer for Michael’s “Story Live” on the 1996-1997 tour, and his talent drew attention from fans. This time, he was appointed as a substitute for Robin McCauley, who was unable to participate due to sudden illness just before the tour, and performed on tour with Michael for the first time in 15 years. This work is a complete recording of the live performance in Greenwich, Richmond on October 20th and the New York performance on October 23rd from the fall 2012 US tour, each with the highest quality audience recording using the latest digital equipment. The second leg of this US tour was recorded in the recently gift-released “LANDING ROMANA 2012”, which features excellent audience shots. The power and clarity of the images captured from the front row of the audience seating was outstanding, but the sound was a little too much because the audience was too close to the stage, and in some scenes there was a lot of cracking and distortion. In contrast, this work captures the performances of both live shows with excellent brightness and clarity. By enjoying it together with the footage of “LANDING ROMANA 2012”, fans will be able to enjoy the second leg of the 2012 US tour even more deeply. Disc 1 contains a complete recording of the live show at “Rock Junction” in Greenwich, Richmond, on October 20th, for about 79 minutes. From the opening of the live show, you will be overwhelmed by the superb sound that makes you think “Is this not a recording by someone involved?” In addition to the outstanding clarity, the balance of the direct feeling and performance, which are at a high level, is of such quality that even old-fashioned sound boards would run away barefoot. Starting with “Lovedrive,” which signals the beginning of the show, Michael’s guitar, David’s vocals, and Pete Holmes’ drums pop out realistically without being disturbed by the cheers and noise of the audience. Michael plays his guitar well throughout the show, and he enjoys his sharp and emotional playing on UFO numbers such as “Save Yourself” and “Into The Arena,” as well as “Shoot Shoot,” “Love To Love,” and “Lights Out.” The long solo in the climax of the show, “Rock Bottom,” is just “brilliant.” I’m really happy to be able to listen to the take from that day with a super soundboard-class sound image! I can say with confidence that this is Schenker’s best recording of his 2012 live show! The following disc 2 includes a complete recording of the performance at the Gramercy Theater in New York on October 23, three days later, which also lasts for nearly 80 minutes. Compared to the amazing Disc 1, this one is a step behind, but you can still enjoy the live performance with a certain brightness and visibility. In terms of the vividness and the sound spread and atmosphere of a live venue, this one seems more like a “natural live source”. In this recording, David’s singing is as impressive as Schenker’s guitar. His husky and unique voice matches the opening songs “Lovedrive”, “Another Piece Of Meat”, and “Save Yourself”, and the new song “Before The Devil Knows You’re Dead” also features singing that is as good as the original Dougie White’s. The vocal range of the UFO numbers after “Shoot Shoot” is also the same, and the attractive performances of “Only You Can Rock Me” and “Love To Love” greatly delight the audience. The listener will be able to feel the fun mood of the live performance in a realistic way, until the climax of the live performance, “Armed And Ready” and “Doctor Doctor”. The setlist and performances of the two shows are almost the same, but the recordings are very different. Listeners can compare the two recordings and enjoy the second leg of the US tour with interest and care. This album is a must-have for all fans, featuring the performance of David Van Landing, who became the “fourth singer” of the “TEMPLE OF ROCK” tour, and Michael’s increasingly polished guitar playing!
