Description
Michael Schenker came to Japan with Gary Burden in 2010 for the 30th anniversary of “Kami”. The best professional shot video is now available. This work includes the “January 13, 2010: Nakano Sunplaza” performance. This is the multi-camera pro shot. As you may have already noticed, this show has been made into an official work as “THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY CONCERT: LIVE IN TOKYO”. It is still loved as a classic. This work is a copy of that. . . Not. It is the Japan Broadcasting version that was aired on a certain broadcasting association more than half a year before it was officially commercialized. Before we get into the details, let’s start with the show’s position. At that time, he came to Japan twice after re-teaming with Gary. This is a good opportunity, so let’s organize the two parts together. 2008, August 25th: Namba HATCH, August 27th: Diamond Hall, August 28th + 29th: Nakano Sunplaza (2 performances) 2010, January 12th + 13th: Nakano Sunplaza (2 performances) ← ★Coco★ ・January 14th: Diamond Hall ・January 15th: Namba HATCH ・January 17th: C.C. Lemon Hall (additional performance) A total of 9 performances in two visits to Japan. Four performances have been held at Nakano Sun Plaza, and this work is the second performance of the 2010 edition. As mentioned earlier, this show has been officially commercialized, but this work is a different version. Of course, the live performance itself is the same, and the mix and camera work are very similar. The quality is completely official. However, it is still not exactly the same. First, cut. Although it roughly follows the official version, different cuts are used in some parts (the intro to “Let Sleeping Dogs Lie” is probably easier to understand). Each song is short, but scenes that cannot be seen officially are scattered throughout almost all the songs. And more than that, it’s an interview. In fact, the volume of all 12 songs may not be as close to the official version, but instead, about 6 interviews from the day are inserted. Not only Michael, but all the members are interviewed individually, and Simon Phillips and Neil Murray also talk about how they met Michael and how they joined. Moreover, this is quite interesting. Michael described Gary as “soulful and bluesy. He had an amazing vibrato and a pleasant voice,” and spoke passionately about Jeff Beck and Jimmy Page. “I want to play the highlight of my career as a Michael Schenker Classic with a special band,” he said, a comment that foreshadows the current MSF. Even more interesting is the story of how he was invited by the Stones when he was a teenager. It is said that it was “just after Brian Jones’ death,” but it was the summer of 1969, when Michael was 14 years old. On the other hand, he also explains how he started playing the guitar: “When I was 14 years old, I heard the sounds made by people like BLACK SABBATH and LED ZEPPELIN.” All in all, it’s an amazing story about a German boy who had only started playing guitar for a few months and had no recording experience, was invited by the Stones… Regardless of the truth or falsity of the story, many of these untold stories are vividly conveyed through Japanese subtitles. Interviews like these are a must-see, but the most important thing is the live performance. As mentioned earlier, there are fewer songs than the official version, but it has a lot of concentration. Let’s organize the contents here. Classics (9 songs)・Phenomenon: Rock Bottom・God: Armed and Ready/Cry for the Nations/Into the Arena/Lost Horizons・Mythology: Let Sleeping Dogs Lie/On and On/Attack of the Mad Axeman・Endless Battle: Rock My Nights Away IN THE MIDST OF BEAUTY (3 songs), I Want You/A Night to Remember/Ride on My Way…and so on. Although it is shorter than the official version, it has a volume of 12 songs, and is a concentrated reduction of the masterpieces from the four albums created with Gary. In later years, MSF also made a video of the performance in Japan, but you can also enjoy the “IN THE MIDST OF BEAUTY” number, “Lost Horizons”, “Rock My Nights Away”, and “On and On” that can not be heard there. Another 10 years have passed since this show. Michael is trying to come to Japan as an MSF member as predicted in this work. This is a piece of the 30th anniversary concert, which was the reincarnation of the original MSG and the prototype of MSF, edited differently from the official work.
