Description
The European tour accompanying the announcement of “BUILT TO DESTORY” not only includes the official live work “ROCK WILL NEVER DIE” recorded at the London “Hammersmith Odeon” performance in November, but also shows an amazing wealth of collector’s items. Among them, the stereo soundboard sound source that directly uses the cassette master leaked by the related parties is a big classic. From the German tour where M.S.G. circuited as a special guest of the “WORLD PIECE TOUR” accompanying the release of IRON MAIDEN’s “PIECE OF MIND”, you can enjoy several wonderful official line sources. In particular, this work “WURTZBURG 1983” is a highly acclaimed work by enthusiasts, who believe it to be superior to the similar soundboard sound source “NUREMBERG 1983”. In addition to the sound quality, the content of the two types of sound sources, the “remastered version” and the “tape original version”, became a hot topic (including specialist magazines) immediately after its release. The quality of the cassette master remastered with the latest technology and equipment is even better than the previous “Wurtzburg 1983”. The sound is somewhere between the previous “remastered version” and the “tape original version”, and the listener can enjoy the live performance from both sides of naturalness and flashiness! The balance of the sound clarity and official feeling is at a superb level that makes you think “it can’t get any better”. The power and directness of Michael’s guitar playing in front of you is more satisfying to listen to than even the official live work! The performance starting with “Captain Nemo” and “Rock My Nights Away” is the best stability and unity even in the ’80s M.S.G. It has been about two months since the start of the tour, and everything is well balanced at a high level, from the unity of the band ensemble to the playing of each member. Gary Barden’s vocals are also quite good. Michael’s guitar in particular is in great form from the beginning. “Rock My Nights Away” and “Are You Ready To Rock” are full of overwhelming power that excites all listeners, with the solo backings being outstanding. In fact, there are not many takes where Michael plays so comfortably and dynamically. “Cry for the Nations” and “On And On”, which are a mix of delicate and hard, and “Into The Arena”, which is a no-brainer, you can enjoy a powerful performance from start to finish. The cheers are a little off because of the line direct, but from the cheers heard through Gary’s microphone, you can understand that the audience is also excited in an enthusiastic mood. Since it is a support performance for IRON MAIDEN, the set is a little more compact than the performance in Japan in January 1984, but many of the main songs are covered. Highlights include the soundboard takes of “I’m Gonna Make You Mine” and “Still Love That Little Devil,” in which Gary Barden sings solo as in the original, replacing Derek St. Holmes, who had recently left the band (unfortunately, there is a cut in the middle of “Still Love That Little Devil” due to a cassette reverse). For the encore, led by Andy Nye’s impressive keyboard, “Doctor Doctor” explodes! At the end, Michael’s guitar and the audience exchange words, bringing the approximately 70-minute live show to a heated conclusion! This is a top-level stereo soundboard! Highly recommended.
