Description

The best-selling album in the world, Michael Jackson’s “Thriller”. The demo collection was released in 2009, and this is a reissue of it. It was leaked at the time, but the sound is generally well-balanced and has good sound quality, and it is of a quality that can be listened to more than enough as an alternative album to “Thriller”. Also, “Startin’ Somethin'” (Demo) is different from the one included in “The Complete Thriller Sessions”. “Billie Jean (Demo)” is also similar to (2nd Studio Demo) in “The Complete Thriller Sessions”, but the sound quality is slightly better and the length is different. Also, “P.Y.T.” is a completely instrumental and very rare. What’s interesting about this title is that it includes demo recordings that the composer made to get Michael to sing. Some of them were rejected, so it’s quite a niche album, but it’s very interesting. First of all, “Nite Line” is a different arrangement from the slightly rockish version with Michael on vocals that was included at the beginning of this title. The song was written by Bree Howard (drummer of Fanny, a band with all-female songwriting talent) on vocals, Glen Ballard (who later wrote “Man in the Mirror” with Theda Garrett) and Davey Faragher (bassist for Elvis Costello, etc.), and has a sound that could be called techno-funk with guitar cutting, and a pop feel that is also reminiscent of Eurobeat. In the end, “Nite Line” was offered to the Pointer Sisters. And the demo of “Carousel” was written by Michael Sembello (guitarist, Stevie Wonder, Temptations, George Benson, etc., Grammy winner for “Maniac” used in the movie “Flashdance”) on vocals and Don Freeman (co-wrote songs for Jeffrey Osborne, Chaka Khan, Robert Palmer, Quincy camp). This is a masterpiece of AOR and would have been a big hit if Michael Sembello had released it at the time. The version produced by Michael Sembello is also melancholy and wonderful, so it’s hard to say which is better. “Trouble” (later called “She’s Trouble”) by Bill Livesey (who wrote songs for the UK band Five Star and had a hit), Shu Schifrin (who wrote songs for Tina Turner, Heart, Al Jarreau, Cliff Richard, etc.), and Terry Britton (who collaborated on “Just Good Friends,” a big hit for Tina Turner, included in “Bad”) is also an electro-dance song that is in keeping with the times. I think Michael had a mission to lead the times and transcend them, rather than to sing the sounds of the times, so I feel that songs like this were inevitably not included. 1 Nite Line (Demo) 4:47 2 Carousel (Demo) 4:09 3 Hot Street (Demo) 3:56 4 Girl Is Mine (Solo Demo) 3:16 5 Starlight (Demo) 5:09 6 Baby Be Mine (Demo) 4:14 7 Billie Jean (Demo) 5:51 8 Startin’ Somethin’ (Demo) 5:28 9 P.Y.T.
