Description
“Bible” is the working title given to a collection of 12 songs written by Eddie Cascio and James Port and supposedly performed by Michael Jackson in 2007. The title comes from a CD that Frank Cascio auctioned several times after Michael’s death, which contained the word “Bible” in Port’s handwriting. This CDR was sold to a private collector in 2017. According to Cascio and Port, these songs were written and recorded by Michael in the fall of 2007 at Cascio’s home studio in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey, for his comeback album. It first attracted attention in May 2010, when Roger Friedman of Showbiz411 wrote that Michael had “recorded an album’s worth of material in the fall of 2007.” Cascio and Port signed a contract and submitted songs for the 2010 release of Michael. After a listening session, the record production team claimed that all of the songs had inconsistencies (such as sampling Michael’s ad-libs) and were sung by an impersonator, not Michael. Cascio and Port responded by saying that Michael always carried a USB with him with previous ad-libs and auto-tuned ad-libs to fill in any mistakes or unfinished vocal takes. They claim that these were the final vocals, and that Michael asked them to “throw away” all the previous takes because they were finished. Cascio and Port’s producer, Stuart Broley, said that his only job was to “make the songs sound like Michael.” Three of Cascio and Port’s songs were included on the album: “Breaking News,” “Keep Your Head Up,” and “Monster.” They were mixed by Michael’s longtime collaborator Teddy Riley. The remaining tracks submitted (“All I Need,” “Burn Tonight,” and “Stay”) were not included in the final version. Fans, like those involved, have doubted the authenticity of the vocals, accusing the songs of being the work of an impersonator named Jason Malachi. In the spring of 2013, the 12 songs from “Bible” were leaked onto the Internet, and on July 12, 2017, the original CDR, the only copy in existence, was auctioned and sold to a private collector. Two CDs, “Ready 2 Win” and “All Right,” were listed in the court documents of Jeffre Phillips’ lawsuit. These CDRs were previously owned by Michael, so it is likely that he was at least aware of the existence of the Casio tracks, but probably never heard them. Jason Malachi is an Italian-American singer-songwriter. Jason himself is a big fan of Michael and has said that he is his biggest influence. On August 21, 2007, a video titled “Michael Jackson – Mamacita (2007)” was uploaded to his YouTube channel. The fact that the song was hidden and not actually sung by Michael, led to a lot of speculation and misinformation. News stations around the world picked up on this and reported that “Michael Jackson’s new songs have been leaked online.” Jason remained silent, but told TMZ that the backing vocals on “Mamacita” were not sung by Michael. Other songs written by Jason, such as “Don’t Walk Away” and “Let Me Go,” were played on the radio, and Jason said they were his songs, but the misinformation continued to spread. Jason’s songs were uploaded online with footage of Michael, and Jason said he didn’t really care. Jason said that when the three songs that Eddie Cascio wrote for Michael, “Breaking News,” “Keep Your Head Up,” and “Monster,” were first released, fans immediately questioned the authenticity of the vocals. The Estate stated that the songs were actually performed by Michael, but the Jackson family insisted that this was not the case, so fans did not believe the Estate’s claims. On January 16, 2011, Jason posted on his Facebook page that he had indeed sung the songs, but it was quickly removed. Later, Jason claimed on MySpace that his account had been hacked and that he had not posted it. Jason denied that it was his page and later said that he had photoshopped it. In 2014, several songs written by Cascio in 2007 were leaked online, and the original CD containing those songs was auctioned three years later under the title “Bible”. Fans determined that the vocals were definitely Jason Malachi, not Michael. As of June 30, 2022, the three songs from “Michael” have been removed from music streaming services and are no longer available to listen to. In 2024, on the podcast “Faking Michael”, researcher Damien Shields and his team contacted Jason and interviewed him about the matter. Jason did not deny that he had sung the songs, but said that he and his family had been threatened for years after the album’s release and that he would speak out “when the time is right”. Disc 1 of this release contains what is believed to be the setlist for “Bible”. And Disc 2 contains demos that were not supposed to have been destroyed, which for some reason exist. And Jason’s “Mamacita” is also included.
