Description
The Meters disbanded after the release of “New Directions” on Reprise in 1977. Leader Art Neville formed the Neville Brothers with his brothers. However, two years after the disbandment, on January 20, 1979, a phantom live performance under the name of the Meters was held at Tipitina’s in New Orleans, where Art and percussionist Cyril Neville were replaced by other members, and a stereo soundboard recording exists. This time, the digital source from the DAT master and the Trader CDR, whose date was unknown for many years, were checked, and another sound source was identified because Willie West occasionally sang lead vocals. Using these two sources, various remastering was done and a super high-quality 2CDR was created, making this a groundbreaking release. The special lineup includes bassist George Porter Jr., drummer Joe Zigaboo Modelist, lead vocalist Leo Nocentelli, legendary singer Willie West, who has been active in New Orleans since the 1960s, and Craig Roten, one of New Orleans’ most skilled keyboard players, who has participated in bands with Erma Thomas, Johnny Adams, Solomon Park, and others. This is a wonderful title that allows you to enjoy the true essence of New Orleans funk soil, playing the Meters’ signature songs without art and with a different charm.
