Description
Introducing a stereo soundboard collection from the fierce thrash metal era! This work contains stereo soundboards of METALLICA and MEGADETH from their appearance at the Dutch rock festival “AARDSCHOK FESTIVAL”. This is a live album that allows you to enjoy METALLICA from the “MASTER OF PUPPETS” era and MEGADETH from the “SO FAR, SO GOOD… SO WHAT!” era all at once. First, some basic knowledge about festivals. “AARDSCHOK FESTIVAL” is a rock/metal festival that was held 10 times intermittently from 1982 to 1999, with METALLICA performing in 1984 (3rd) and 1987 (5th), and MEGADETH performing in 1988 (6th). The venues varied from year to year, but in 1987 and 1988, they were held in the same Zwolle. Unfortunately, the 1984 soundboard was not preserved, but the 1987 and 1988 soundboards were preserved with great sound. Let’s take a closer look at each one. [METALLICA: Zwolle, February 8, 1987] Disc 1 is the 1987 METALLICA edition. It is the penultimate show of the “DAMAGE, INC. TOUR” and is not available on livemetallica.com. The bass has already been replaced by Jason Newsted. The quality is a fiercely direct stereo soundboard. There are almost no cheers, and the violent guitar strumming is directly connected to the rhythm section and James Hetfield’s roar. The soundboard of the “DAMAGE, INC. TOUR” is already valuable, but it is a great sound among them. Unfortunately, it is an incomplete version with five songs cut: “Battery”, “Fade to Black”, “Seek & Destroy”, “Creeping Death” and “Fight Fire With Fire”, but it is still more than an hour long. If this was a full recording, it would be a wonderful live album that would go beyond the official/unofficial distinction and become a “legend in the history of METALLICA”. “Damage Inc.” and “Blitzkrieg” roar with that sound… In the intro to “Whiplash”, Jason also performs a bass solo that lasts about five minutes like Cliff. The best thrash paradise is unfolding. [MEGADETH: Zwolle, May 29, 1988] MEGADETH on disc 2 is of higher quality and more valuable than METALLICA. It’s not a full show, but it’s only seven songs (about 35 minutes), but it’s very valuable. After all, Jeff Young & Check Beeler are the rarest era in history. In recent years, full live performances from the “PEACE SELLS… BUT WHO’S BUYING?” and “RUST IN PEACE” eras have been made official, but this era has been completely ignored. There are not even any single fragmented takes. Even if you look at the unofficial ones, it doesn’t change much, and the only line recordings confirmed are the seven pro shots from the “May 20, 1988 Essen performance” and this work. Although this work has seven songs, most of them, “In My Darkest Hour”, “Devils Island”, “Liar” and “The Mechanix”, cannot be heard at the Essen performance. Moreover, it is a direct sound that is equal to or greater than the METALLICA edition, and the “rarity” and “quality” are outstanding in the entire history of MEGADETH. Even if you make a fuss about it being rare, it’s meaningless if it’s not interesting to listen to. Of course, this work is also great in that respect. The line does not go through PA, so the MEGADETH sound of that time is rich. “SO FAR, SO GOOD… SO WHAT!” was a particularly unique sound among all of MEGADETH’s works, and that sound is alive in this work as well. “The Conjuring” and “Devils Island” are dyed in the color of “SO FAR”, and the super famous song “Liar” is performed live by the originators… This is also a thrash heaven that is not inferior to the METALLICA edition. The two heroes were running at the cutting edge of thrash metal while scattering raw power. This live album is full of that charm. The following year, MEGADETH took over from METALLICA. This two-disc set is a wave-like attack of the band’s momentum at the forefront of the era and the heat of “catch up and overtake!” No matter how much it was the sound board of the same festival and venue, it was a bit forcible to couple a live performance that was one year apart. However, the fun of listening to them together is that the momentum of the 1980s is intense. A heavenly album of METALLICA, MEGADETH, and “80’s thrash metal.” “Aardschok Festival” IJsselhallen, Zwolle, The Netherlands 8th February 1987 & 29th May 1988 STEREO SBD Disc 1(61:37) METALLICA “Aardschok Festival” IJsselhallen, Zwolle, The Netherlands 8th February 1987 1.
