Description
The strongest heavy metal band in history, “Dave Mustaine + METALLICA”. Their superb live album is now available at an affordable price. This work contains “New York performance on April 9, 1983”. It is the last show just before Mustaine was fired. At that time, Cliff Burton had already joined METALLICA, and the four-piece consisted of Mustaine, Burton, James Hetfield, and Lars Ulrich. It was a legendary lineup in which all members were truly super important people. First, let’s look back on the show’s position in the history of this four-piece group. [1982] March 14: First live performance March 27-November 30: Local live performances (28 performances) December 28: Cliff joins [1983] February 15: Moves to San Francisco March 5 + 19: San Francisco (2 performances) {April 1: Kirk Hammett joins} April 8 + 9: New York (2 performances) ←★Here★ {April 11: Mustaine fired} April 16-May 7: Live performances after Kirk joins (5 performances) {May 10: Production of “KILL ‘EM ALL” begins} This is a rough outline of METALLICA’s journey from their stage debut to “KILL ‘EM ALL.” Cliff joined at the end of 1982, but no live performances were held and they moved to San Francisco. They performed four shows there and Kirk joined. In other words, there were only four live performances of the “Mustaine & Cliff quartet”, and this is the final performance. This work, which records such a show, is a very wonderful vintage audience. It was a recording that had been known for a long time only for the legendary quartet, but it appeared about 10 years ago and was highly praised by enthusiasts around the world as a “mega upgrade!” Currently, the super-famous press CD “LEGENDARY QUARTET: FIRST & LAST” is considered the highest peak, but the remastered version was recorded there. This work is the original master as it was excavated. Its quality is no wonder that enthusiasts were shocked. Anyway, the direct feeling of the super-class is very powerful! The sense of closeness and closed room of the club is tremendous, and it is on ferociously. The venue echo is supposed to be sucked in, but the roar that is spit out from the PA one after another crushes the echo, and if you close your eyes, it is so real that the figure of the legendary quartet appears in front of you. Despite that power, it is clear, so I am impressed. I mentioned “roaring sound” earlier, but of course, that is the sound that METALLICA themselves play and blast. This work picks up that roar beautifully, and even when it goes fortissimo, it doesn’t distort. It’s a great recording that is ferociously violent, yet easy to listen to. The show depicted with such a sound is amazing! What catches the ear more than anything is Mustaine. He plays a ruthless, mechanical solo with the same crackling sound as in “KILLING IS MY BUSINESS…AND BUSINESS IS GOOD!”. In “KILL ‘EM ALL”, Kirk sprinkled his unique wah and lyricism on the original line, but in this work, it is cold and mechanical from beginning to end. This is a perfect fit for the early METALLICA numbers. He is truly the originator who wrote and developed the songs. And Cliff. While his predecessor Ron McGovney often played a relatively simple root, Cliff gets involved in the riffs and adds a strong back melody. Of course, it’s not as diverse as “RIDE THE LIGHTNING” and “MASTER OF PUPPETS,” which Cliff himself originated, but the bass line of “KILL ‘EM ALL” can already be heard. And of course, the distorted bass solo is “(Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth”! It then rushes into the explosive “Whiplash,” and here too the “KILL ‘EM ALL” arrangement is perfectly completed. This album includes all the songs from “KILL ‘EM ALL” except “Metal Militia.” In other words, this is Mustaine’s version of “KILL ‘EM ALL,” and 100% of the original “KILL ‘EM ALL.” Kirk joined the band a week before this album, and two days after this show, Mustaine’s legendary firing took place. The ultimate metal show that appeared in this world only at that moment. The ultimate thrash metal that only these four legendary people could create.
