Description

In 1988, METALLICA conquered the world with “…AND JUSTICE FOR ALL,” which evolved into a radical yet grandiose and detailed song. The original master that conveys the scorching scene is now available. What is engraved in this work is “Chicago performance on November 17, 1988”. This is a Gekitetsu audience recording that was made into a CD directly from the master cassette that recorded the whole story. Speaking of 1988, “MONSTERS OF ROCK TOUR 1988” with VAN HALEN and DOKKEN is also famous, but this work is the “DAMAGED JUSTICE TOUR” that took place after that. First of all, let’s look back at the show’s position from the schedule at that time. 1988, May 23rd-July 30th: MONSTERS OF ROCK TOUR (30 performances) “…AND JUSTICE FOR ALL” released on August 25th, September 11th-November 5th: Europe ( 41 performances) ・November 15th – December 18th: North America #1 (23 performances) ←★Here★ January 11th – April 21st, 1989: North America #2 (63 performances) ・May 1st -18th: Oceania/Japan (10 performances) – May 24th – September 23rd: North America #3 (79 performances) ← *Official video – October 4th – 7th: South America (3 performances) This is 1988 / METALLICA in 1989. “…AND JUSTICE FOR ALL” was released in the summer and became a huge hit, reaching number 6 in the US. The world was shocked by an incident in which radical thrash metal broke into the top 10 of each country. Building on this momentum, the “DAMAGED JUSTICE TOUR” will begin in the fall. The Chicago performance of this work was the second concert in which the home version “North America #1” had just begun. This work recorded at such a show is truly the best audience recording. Although it is said to be “excellent”, it is not the type that can be mistaken for a sound board, but a real audience with intense heat at the scene. In fact, the enthusiasm is not overwhelming, and as soon as the guitar plays backwards to signal the start of “Blackened,” insane joy erupts into a frenzy that is neither a scream nor a riot. Then, James’ live riff cuts through the intro, but here I am surprised. Although it is clearly an audience in terms of tone, its edges are sharp and its core is solid! Furthermore, the whole band runs wild with the pyro’s “Bang!”, but the explosive power of the explosive sound and the audience’s excitement is amazing. It is a famous scene that symbolizes “DAMAGED JUSTICE TOUR”, but even so, the riff attack and shout that overruns and suppresses everything… It is a masterpiece that accurately conveys the intensely compressed cult atmosphere that is different from the major feel after “BLACK ALBUM”, and at the same time lets you enjoy an even more powerful and well-organized heavy metal ensemble. That is to be expected, the taper recorded in this work is not an ordinary person. He is a person who released a series of masterpieces in the Chicago area in the 1980s, and is well known for such masterpieces as IRON MAIDEN’s “SLAVERY MASTER”, MOTLEY CRUE’s “THEATRE OF ROSEMONT”, and Ozzy Osbourne’s “ULTIMATE SIN IN CHICAGO”. Furthermore, although no confirmation has been obtained, it is said that it may be the same taper as METALLICA’s masterpieces “THE ECSTASY OF ARAGON”, “CHICAGO 1986 FIRST LEG”, and “DEFINITIVE MASTER OF CHICAGO”… If you have experienced even one of these, you will be able to experience the intense power and sense of stability, and this work is the “DAMAGED JUSTICE version” of that masterpiece collection. As a matter of fact, there were two cuts due to tape changes (32 seconds in the middle of “Master Of Puppets” and 9 seconds in the intro of “Fade To Black”), but they were compensated for with another sound source. The entire story can be enjoyed seamlessly. The official SBD of the Long Beach Arena performance, which was close to day, was used for compensation. As much as that is possible, the sound of the main part is also a clear masterpiece recording. What is depicted with such a sound is a full show where the heavy metal feeling has reached its peak in the entire history of METALLICA. Speaking of “DAMAGED JUSTICE TOUR”, the pro shot of the Seattle performance of “LIVE SHIT: BINGE & PURGE” is a symbol, and the masterpiece “DAMAGED JUSTICE JAPAN TOUR 1989” of the Japan performance is still fresh in my memory. However, since the legs are different in this work, the set is also slightly different. Let’s organize the contents here. Cliff era numbers (9 songs)・KILL ‘EM ALL: Seek & Destroy/Whiplash・RIDE THE LIGHTNING: For Whom The Bell Tolls/Creeping Death/Fade to Black・MASTER OF PUPPETS: Welcome Home (Sanitarium)/Leper Messiah (★ )/Master Of Puppets/Battery …AND JUSTICE FOR ALL (6 songs)・Blackened/Harvestor Of Sorrow/Eye Of The Beholder (★)/To Live Is To Die/One/…And Justice For All cover ( 5 songs + α)・Little Wing/Jam (How Many More Times/Run To The Hills) (★)/Helpless (★)/Last Caress/Am I Evil?/Breadfan *Note: “★” marks are official Seattle performances. Songs you can’t listen to. …and it looks like this. The selection of covers played at the end is different, but the first half is bigger than that. The rare “Leper Messiah” and “Eye Of The Beholder” only for this tour will also be played. Still, “Eye Of The Beholder” could be heard on “DAMAGED JUSTICE JAPAN TOUR 1989”, but “Leper Messiah” was a song that did not come true. And the performance that spells out such a set is heavy metal at its best. As per the schedule above, the “DAMAGED JUSTICE TOUR” begins with an expedition to Europe and then makes a triumphant return to the home country. This is their second performance, and they are not at all tired from touring, and are burning with desire to trample on their home country. I want to quickly hit the fans in my home country with the intricately evolved songs, and I want to show off how I’m going to destroy the statue of the goddess… Such passionate energy overflows, and even in the recordings of the “DAMAGED JUSTICE TOUR” in various countries, the metallic luster is extremely hard. It’s a show. Chicago was the birthplace of METALLICA’s masterpieces in the early days, such as “THE ECSTASY OF ARAGON” from the 2nd era, and “CHICAGO 1986 FIRST LEG” and “DEFINITIVE MASTER OF CHICAGO” from the 3rd era. This work is a new masterpiece that is the “DAMAGED JUSTICE version”. This work itself is the ultimate heavy metal record, but by enjoying it as a series, you can also enjoy “METALLICA’s history” with the best sound. This is also a luxurious pleasure unique to audience recording. Live at UIC Pavilion, Chicago, IL, USA 17th November 1988 TRULY PERFECT SOUND(from Original Masters) Disc 1 (58:55) 01. Radio Spot 02.
