Description
MEGADETH, the second impact of thrash metal that hit the archipelago after METALLICA, will be visiting Japan for the first time. A new excavated live album that conveys the scene is now available. What is infused into this work is the “April 3, 1987: Shibuya Public Hall” performance. This is a powerful audience recording. MEGADETH tends to be hidden in the shadows because it was about 4 months later than METALLICA, but MEGADETH’s first visit to Japan has become legendary for its more dangerous mood than METALLICA. Our store has already archived all performances in a masterpiece live album. First, let’s look back at the schedule at the time, including organizing the collection.・April 2nd “‘DETH’S COMING” ・April 3rd: Shibuya Public Hall ←★This work★ ・April 4th “NAGOYA 1987” ・April 6th “OSAKA 1987” Total of 4 performances . There were two performances in Tokyo, then Nagoya, and then Osaka, and this is the second performance at Shibuya Public Hall. This show is also known as “’DETH’S COMING”, but this work is a completely different recording that appears for the first time. And the sound is wonderful, surpassing conventional recordings. The “’DETH’S COMING (hereinafter referred to as the previous work)” version is a clear masterpiece recording even by modern standards, but this work is even more powerful. There is no sense of space that was felt in the previous work, and even the tone does not have an audience feel. It’s a close feeling that makes you want to call it “just like a sound board” (the bass with a full-throttle feel is also amazing). In fact, only the vocals feel a little far away, but this is the same with conventional recording and is due to the balance of the on-site PA. It is also a historical fact of the legendary scene. What is depicted in such a direct sound is the concentrated reduction of the early two albums that screamed “intellectual thrash”. Speaking of the 1987 live performance, the official soundboard of the Cleveland performance is famous, so let’s compare and organize it. Killing Is My Business (6 songs)・Rattlehead/Killing Is My Business… And Business Is Good!/Chosen Ones (★)/These Boots/Mechanix/Last Rites/Loved To Deth Peace Sells… Butt Foods Buying? (7 songs) ・Wake Up Dead/The Conjuring/Bad Omen/My Last Words/Peace Sells/Devil’s Island/Good Mourning/Black Friday (★) *Note: “★” marks can be heard on the official Cleveland concert soundboard No songs. …and it looks like this. “The Skull Beneath the Skin” played in Nagoya/Osaka was not performed, so it is not the longest, but the full show that also pops out “Chosen Ones” and “Good Mourning/Black Friday” is unique to Japan as it is a solo performance. After that, the route changes little by little, but here it is 100% pure intellectual thrash without any mixture. What’s even better than the set is the immersive feeling of being on the scene. Of course, in this work, the strong and meaty performance sound never gives up the leading role, and the audience is also slandered. However, the enthusiasm that erupts as if to exploit that feeling is very real. While you can enjoy every inch of the virtuosity of the legendary quartet that also includes Gal Samuelson and Chris Poland, you can also enjoy the heat that could only be felt in 1987. The culmination of this is actually after the performance. The encore ended with “Good Mourning/Black Friday” with the words “Goodbye!”, but even after that, the excitement in the venue did not cool down at all. When the members show their faces, small eruptions occur over and over again, and the clapping and cheering continues endlessly, trying to bring them back again and again. That doesn’t change even when the announcement of the end of the performance is played in the venue… Or rather, adding fuel to the fire, they call out “MEGADETH! MEGADETH!”. Finally, the staff came out and tried to calm down the commotion by saying, “Today’s performance is now over!” “We’re sorry, there will be no encore!!” After that, MEGADETH would go on to build tremendous popularity in Japan. Although it was not called “Big in Japan” because it was so popular in its home country, the passion of the fans, which could even be called “loyalty,” was unsurpassed even among the Four Heavenly Kings. This work is a live album that vacuum-packs that first encounter with extremely thick and close sound. The invasion of MEGADETH was comparable to METALLICA’s first visit to Japan, which was their first encounter with thrash metal itself. A powerful audience recording of the performance of the author’s first visit to Japan “April 3, 1987: Shibuya Public Hall”. It is a completely different first appearance recording from “’DETH’S COMING”, and it is even more powerful. The separation of each instrument is wonderful, and the verses, which tend to be muffled, are full of excitement. Only the vocals feel a little far away, but this is the same with conventional recordings and is due to the balance of the on-site PA, which accurately tells the historical facts. If the set, which is a condensed version of the first two albums that are the embodiment of intellectual thrash, is intense, the sense of realism from the heated scene is also extremely hot. You can also experience a very realistic scene where the applause and calls continue even after the show ends, and the staff frantically appeases the audience by saying, “We’re sorry, there will be no encore!!” Live at Shibuya Kokaido, Tokyo, Japan 3rd April 1987 TRULY PERFECT SOUND★Excellent sound quality (77:13) 1.
