Description

There are two kinds of professional shots included in this work. The first is an unplugged show in Quebec (Canada) on May 17, 2001, and the other is a regular electric live performance in Medan (Indonesia) on July 31, 2001. In fact, there are very few soundboards and professional shots during the “THE WORLD NEEDS A HERO” era, probably because it was a transitional period. Other than the official work “RUDE AWAKENING”, there are only two performances of this work and three Korean performances. It is a package of those precious records. Let’s introduce each performance one by one. [UNPLUGGED: Quebec, May 17, 2001] This is an acoustic TV appearance that is full of “2001”-ness. I don’t know if it was a rivalry against their eternal rival METALLICA, but MEGADETH after “CRYPTIC WRITING” also focused on acoustics. There are some soundboards and professional shots remaining, but this Quebec program is considered to be the representative video among them. Unlike a normal stage, they are performing while sitting in the broadcasting studio. Although performances where everyone is sitting tend to be modest, this work has intense camerawork moving around and does not get boring, which is why it is loved as a “representative of unplugged”. The biggest highlight of this work is its acoustic performance. METALLICA’s unplugged included cover songs that suit acoustic guitars, but MEGADETH is pushing through with the original. This is also very good. The sharp riffs of metal surprisingly go well with acoustic guitars, and even unplugged songs that are just quiet and push through with mood are crisp. Rather, it is because of the acoustic guitar that the sharpness of the edge stands out, and it depicts music that can only be enjoyed with “metal + acoustic guitar”. And it is MEGADETH, the most skilled of the modern generation, who is playing. Even without the electric decoration, the edge is sharp and the flowing melody is not stagnant. “She-Wolf” is a song with a sharp attack sound. The instrumental version of the EP “CRYPTIC SOUNDS” was also great, but the singing and harmonies are also perfect, and the live acoustic performance until the very end is exceptional! Furthermore, the taste and vocals unique to acoustic music are also good. Dave Mustaine has never made a name for himself with his singing skills, but he has improved a lot along the melody-oriented line since “COUNTDOWN TO EXTINCTION”. In the acoustic, the rich singing voice that only he can sing stands out, and you can enjoy the harmony with Al Pitrelli, who is also a good singer. The depth is comparable to Phil Lynott, and “no one can replace Mustaine” … It is a masterpiece video that makes you realize such a common sense. [PLUGGED: Medan performance on July 31, 2001] On the other hand, this is a familiar electric pro shot. However, what is unfamiliar is the venue, and the TV footage featuring the Indonesian performance. In 2001, the signal for the “revival of metal” had already been raised by IRON MAIDEN’s “METAL 2000 TOUR”, but the movement was not yet in full swing. Therefore, each band was also touring Asia, and MEGADETH had also toured Korea and Indonesia. However, the broadcast quality was surprisingly (?) excellent. From the beginning, the band introduction is played in Indonesian, giving off a suffocating local feeling, but once the show starts, the camera work is extremely dynamic and cool. The cuts, which make extensive use of free movements, are a little different from Western broadcasts, but they are not amateurish. In Eastern Europe, it took a long time for rock broadcasts to mature, but Indonesia has a unique sense of bringing out the charm of metal. It’s completely imagined, but this sense may be related to the local rock culture. In fact, Indonesia is a treasure trove of high-quality progressive rock bands. Bands such as GURUH GIPSY and YOCKIE have been known to a few enthusiasts since the 70s, but with the world debut of DISCUS in 1999, new and old masterpieces appeared all at once. High-quality bands that surpassed even Europe, the United States and South America, such as KANTATA REVOLVERE, KRAKATAU 2000, GIANT STEP, etc., were sent out one after another to the world. The camerawork of this work seems to exude even the underlying strength of Indonesia. Of course, the main character is not the camera but MEGADETH. Although it is a broadcast of 10 songs and not a full recording, “Moto Psycho” and “Time: The Beginning/Use The Man” that cannot be seen in the official video “RUDE AWAKENING” are also perfect. It is the longest and best version that can be seen up to “Kill The King” that has not been available in the version that has been circulated so far. Also, for MEGADETH fans who know that time, the costumes are nostalgic. Mustaine wears a red shirt based on the cover of the single “KILL THE KING,” while his partner David Ellefson wears a yellow shirt. If you’ve actually seen their performance in Japan, the unique MEGADETH logo, which has never been used anywhere else, may bring back memories. This is a rare unplugged performance and a performance in Indonesia filled with great songs from the “THE WORLD NEEDS A HERO” era. This is a collection of the best versions of the few professional shots left from this era. “Live a M+” Montreal, Quebec, Canada 17th May 2001 PRO-SHOT Teledan Stadium, Medan, Indonesia 31st July 2001 PRO-SHOT (95:38) UNPUGGED “Live a M+” Montreal, Quebec, Canada 17th May 2001 01.
