Description
Introducing the ultimate anthology “Memoire” that traces the activities of Mary Hopkin, the singer of the Beatles’ APPLE label, over 50 years since her debut! A rare collection of rare recordings, including hard-to-find singles, demos, live shows, and TV shows, compiled in chronological order, perfect for collectors! “Memoire: Anthology 1” includes recordings from her early days before her major label debut to the glorious 60s, when she was at the height of her popularity with the worldwide hit “Sad Angel” from the APPLE label in 1968, up to the 70s. Mary Hopkin made her debut in 1968 from APPLE Records, which was founded by the Beatles themselves, and her popularity soared with the worldwide hit. CD1 starts with her early recordings before her major label debut. The “Cambrian Recordings”, which are entirely sung in Welsh and are her roots, are reproduced in the order of the songs from her Japan tour commemorative album “Joy of Love”, which was only released in Japan in 1968 and will be nostalgic for fans of the past. The album also includes the Byrds’ well-known “Turn, Turn, Turn,” which was sung on the TV show “Opportunity Knocks,” which marked her debut, the Bee Gees’ “In the Morning,” which was first performed on the Apple album introduced by Paul McCartney, the earliest demo “House of the Rising Sun,” which was not included on the album, and her worldwide hit debut single “Sad Angel,” all in original mono. The album also includes a rare live performance from her first appearance in the U.S. in 1968, when she backed up Donovan on the “Ed Sullivan Show.” CD2 includes covers of Joni Mitchell’s “The Lights and Shadows of Youth” and The Beatles’ “In My Life” from the 1968 U.S. TV show. The demo recordings from the contest “Song for Europe” and the recordings from her own TV show “In the Land of…” are rare and are making their first appearance, and it is noteworthy to see her perform standards such as “The Sound of Music,” “My Fair Lady,” and “The Wizard of Oz.” Both singles A and B, which were not included on the album, are included in chronological order, including acetate recordings, making this the first in a comprehensive anthology covering their activities in the 1960s.
