Description

Martin Barre, who released “50 YEARS OF JETHRO TULL” to celebrate his 50th anniversary, continues to be active today. The latest and best pro shot is now available. This work was filmed at “Shrewsbury performance on August 24, 2019.” This is a multi-camera professional shot taken when he appeared at the music festival “SHREWSBURY FOLK FESTIVAL”, which has been an annual event since 2006. For Martin, the 50th anniversary means 50 years of JETHRO TULL. Ian Anderson is currently on his 50th anniversary tour, and Martin is also leading a solo band on a world tour playing JETHRO TULL’s masterpieces. Information about Martin is hard to come by in Japan, but his activities are on a larger scale than even Ian. First of all, let’s take a look at his current schedule to get an idea of what he’s up to. ●2019, January 19th + 25th: UK (2 performances), February 15th – March 10th: North America (21 performances), April 12th – May 18th: North America (27 performances), 6 June 2nd: Performance at INTERNATIONAL GUITAR FESTIVAL ・June 19th-23rd: North America (5 performances) ・June 29th + 30th: Italy (2 performances) ・August 2nd-24th: Europe (5 performances) ← ★Coco★ ・October 13th-27th: North America (10 performances) ・November 20th-December 1st: Australia (9 performances) ・December 19th + 20th: North America (2 performances)●2020・February 6th-7th: UK (2 shows) April 1st-8th: The Blue Cruise April 10th-18th: North America (4 shows) September 15th-26th: North America (8 shows) Performance) This is the 2019/2020 Martin that has been announced so far. As of October, Ian has performed nearly 50 performances, but Martin has already performed over 60 performances. He has already been booked for a year ahead, and it’s hard to believe that he will turn 73 next month. In such a situation, the “SHREWSBURY FOLK FESTIVAL” of this work was also a concert on the last day of the summer European tour. Such a show will be recorded and broadcast using multiple cameras. This work is a DVD of that professional shot. And the quality is top-notch with a rating of “super”. When it comes to the latest broadcasts from great veterans, even if the image and sound quality are good, the camera work is bland and tends to end up being boring, but this work is (completely!) different. The cuts that capture the highlights of the eight-piece band (Clive Bunker and David Palmer also participate!) are finely cut and have a great sense of style. What’s more than that is the image cut. It is probably a screen image that is played during the show, but images that are perfect for the image of the song are woven throughout. Sometimes it’s a psychedelic pattern, but sometimes it’s the streets of London, recorded footage of historical events, natural scenery, the old JUTHRO TULL… The variety of images, camera work, and vivid lighting combine to make it very colorful. It’s a lively, well-crafted video work filled with the work of the museum’s curators, rather than the taste of a veteran. The show depicted with such visual beauty takes a turn, and the history of JETHRO TULL overflows with deep flavor. Let’s organize the set here and see how thorough it is. ●THIS WAS (3 songs)・A Song for Jeffrey/My Sunday Feeling/Some Day the Sun Won’t Shine for You (acoustic) ●STAND UP (3 songs)・Back to the Family/For a Thousand Mothers/Nothing Is Easy ●BENEFIT (2 songs)・To Cry You a Song/Teacher ●AQUALUNG (4 songs)・Hymn 43/Aqualung/Cheap Day Return (acoustic)/Locomotive Breath ●WAR CHILD (2 songs)・War Child/Bungle in the Jungle ●SONGS FROM THE WOOD (2 songs)・Songs From the Wood/Hunting Girl ●Others (3 songs)・Life Is a Long Song (acoustic)/Heavy Horses [HEAVY HORSES]/Jump Start [CREST OF A KNAVE]… …and it looks like this. There is only one song from the 80’s, “Jump Start”, and the rest are completely 60’s and 70’s. Moreover, although I can’t tell from this, the order of the songs is also amazing. Starting with 1968’s “A Song for Jeffrey”, it will be played in strict chronological order. There are some exceptions, such as “Some Day the Sun Won’t Shine for You” being placed in the middle due to an acoustic set, and “Locomotive Breath” being placed as a highlight, but it is almost history. It is a musical journey that follows from “THIS WAS” to “SONGS FROM THE WOOD” along the way. Moreover, it is not just a list of famous songs. What is particularly fresh is the acoustic set placed in the middle. Becca Langsford and Alex Hart, who are also active as a female duo, serve as lead vocals here, and they are very skillful and have good voices. In particular, Becca, who made her debut in 2011, has a cute appearance, but the voice that comes out of her open mouth as she strums the washboard is a dignified older sister’s voice. She seems to admire Memphis Minnie, a leading figure in the pre-war blues, and her deep blues feel is understandable. Alex, on the other hand, has a folk singing voice, and the JETHRO TULL number revived by the harmony of the two is just refreshing. Dan Crisp, who sings the main character of this work, has a wonderful rock vocal with a melancholy British voice, but I would like to hear more of these two female voices. Martin Barre, who has parted ways with Ian Anderson, continues to pass on the masterpieces of JETHRO TULL. This is a piece where you can experience the 50th anniversary tour with beautiful professional shots that look like a work. This is a video work in which the artist himself shows off how many wonderful masterpieces he has left behind. It’s a masterpiece that continues to be famous even if you play it, and it will touch your heart even if you listen to it.
