Description

MARILLION’s legendary first visit to Japan in 1985. The best radio album that brings out the scent of that era has been decided to be released. This work includes the Japanese radio program “WEEKEND LIVE SPECIAL” from that time. This is a MARILLION special corner that was broadcast in January 1986, right after the first visit to Japan. The program is narrated by a famous DJ and broadcasts two types of soundboard live performances from the time. Let’s introduce it along the way. [Section 1: Chippanham Performance, March 12, 1984] It starts with the famous DJ’s self-introduction, and from there you can see the superb quality. This work is an air check recorded by a domestic record enthusiast, but its freshness and state of preservation are the best. Although there is a bit of reception noise at the beginning, it quickly improves and a completely official-grade beautiful sound begins to flow. Although the sound may be of official quality, the content is just that of a radio program. The famous DJ’s voice is youthful, and the content he talks about is full of the times. He excitedly proclaims, “MARILLION is said to be the hero of new progressive rock…” and digs into the history of the band from its formation to its arrival in Japan. The “?” here is the song title. The famous DJ says, “The songs we’re about to deliver are Assassing, Script For A Jester’s Tear, and Petrushka!” Fans at the time seemed to think, “Petrushka?”, but in reality, this was the “Garden Party/Market Square Heroes” medley. Apparently this program is playing a transcription disc of “BBC IN CONCERT”, but “Petrushka” was printed on the cue sheet. Of course, listeners at the time had no idea what was being said, but famous DJs read the sheet out loud. And what begins to flow is the finest soundboard live! After all, this show took place about a week after the main Leicester performance of “REAL TO REEL”. Since it is extracted from the BBC disc, “Incubus”, “He Knows You Know” and “Fugazi” are not available, but you can enjoy the band potential comparable to historical masterpieces in official quality. [Section 2: Hammersmith performance on December 14, 1984] After another DJ part, the second half was the Hammersmith Odeon performance. This show is a superb soundboard that has been made official with the BOX set “EARLY STAGES”. The DJ says, “From the 1985 tour…” but it was in 1984. Three songs were selected: “Garden Party,” “Cinderella Search,” and “Chelsea Monday,” while “Jigsaw,” “Misplaced Childhood,” and “Incubus,” which were included in the BBC transcription, were omitted. If I had known that the “Petrushka” that was played in the first half was “Garden Party/Market Square Hero”, I might have chosen another song, but in any case, the soundboard from the heyday was still amazing!!! And here too, the DJ The famous tone is fun. While constantly comparing Phish to Peter Gabriel, names that make you cringe pop out, such as PALLAS, TWELFTH NIGHT, and IQ. What’s even funnier is the story behind his top-notch band. He shares an anecdote that says, “During his promotional visit to Japan in September last year (1985), (Fish) did too many interviews, which caused his throat to become unwell, and he canceled all subsequent UK shows.” It’s amazing that he talked so much that it hurt his throat, but it was so serious that he had to cancel the entire tour… However, the reality is that we have done a lot of touring in the UK since returning to Japan, and when we calm down, we say, “What an idiot.” But this was the 80s. It was a good time when rock’s storytelling was easy-going and exaggerated. That nostalgic yet warm scent wafts from every corner of this work. The live performance with official sound is also wonderful, but it also has a sense of the times, including the DJ’s comments that surround it. This is a radio album where you can enjoy the atmosphere of Japan, which was the excitement of coming to Japan for the first time. MARILLION is at its peak, and Japan meets them for the first time. Please enjoy it carefully with the super best sound board.
