Mariah Carey went on her first Japan tour in four years, shortly after appearing at “WORLD BLOCKCHAIN FESTIVAL”. A live album that captures the scene with the best sound is now available. This work was recorded at the “November 1, 2018: Nippon Budokan” performance. It’s been a few weeks since the “WORLD BLOCKCHAIN FESTIVAL” held at Saitama Super Arena, so it seems like we’ve been in Japan forever, but that’s not the case. This tour is part of the “#1’s TOUR” touring Southeast Asia/East Asia. First, let’s check the show’s position from the schedule. ・October 13: WORLD BLOCKCHAIN FESTIVAL ・October 16-26: Asia (6 performances) ・October 29: Osaka City Central Gymnasium ・October 31: Nippon Budokan ・November 1: Nippon Budokan [ This work】・November 3rd-9th: Asia (3 performances) This is the outline of “#1’s TOUR”. Immediately after “WORLD BLOCKCHAIN FESTIVAL”, he visited Malaysia → Taiwan → Macau → China and returned to Japan. The Nippon Budokan of this work is the final day of such 7th Japan tour. It will be Mariah’s first Nippon Budokan in 12 years, and this work is an audience recording that captures the scene with the best sound. This is a direct CD version of the master given directly by the recording artist himself, and is an original recording unique to this work. The quality is also excellent! A beautiful recording of Mariah’s beautiful voice that reaches straight through the crystal clear atmosphere. Although there was no sense of distance, there was no turbidity or cloudiness in the acoustics of the venue, the echoing singing voices were majestic, and the details of the performance sound shone brightly. Of course, this is also because the core of the singing voice is clear, and the “ringing” unique to the guest record makes it many times more beautiful and glossy. It is a famous recording that embodies the “ideal of the audience”, which is far more wonderful than a poor soundboard sound. There’s a reason why it has that kind of sound. In fact, the recording artist who made this work a thing is not just a person. In recent years, he has been making a series of superb recordings, and recently Celine Dion’s “TOKYO DOME 2018” and Huey Lewis’s “TOKYO 2017 1ST NIGHT” have been very popular. At Celine, he was astonished, asking, “Is this really the sound of a dome?!” At Huey Lewis, it received great acclaim and became No. 1 on his Japan tour, which was full of top-notch recordings. These were at Tokyo Dome and Orchard Hall, but they also achieved that transcendental sound at Nippon Budokan…This is a piece that proves that Kobofuji can choose any venue. The show drawn with that sound is also extremely wonderful. The set was Ame Arare, a huge hit song that conquered the entire earth. Of course, since he is a Guinness-class artist, he can perform multiple shows with just his hit songs, but it is still overwhelming. Most of the 17 songs sung were hit singles, and 10 of them were No. 1 songs in the United States. I wrote “almost”, but there are only two exceptions. These are “The Distance” and “With You” from the upcoming release of their new album “CAUTION,” and they are masterpieces that will soon join the ranks of hit songs. What’s even more touching than such a gorgeous set is Mariah’s singing voice. On this tour, it was impressive to see them leaving the dancing to the backup dancers, grabbing the microphone and concentrating on singing, and that’s why their vocalizations were so wonderful. “Make It Happen” is sung soulfully, “Vision of Love” is the debut song that resonates with overwhelming vocal volume, and “One Sweet Day” is as sweet as the song title. Even among the new songs, “With You” has a wonderful variety of singing styles, and the gently enveloping “The Distance” (world premiere at Budokan 2 DAYS!) captivates the audience. And, of course, “Emotions”! He repeated those high-pitched voices, and with each one, the venue erupted into excitement and the Budokan shook. Yes, the enthusiasm of the audience for this work is also amazing. It is not a recording that is bothered by strange voices and screams (never!), but the realistic reactions that fill the octagonal space are truly delicious. The audience was delighted with the sounds of “Aishitemas” and “Tokio!” that were repeated during “Always Be My Baby,” and the joy that spread through the intros of each song was a spectacle. And when Mariah starts singing, it becomes quiet and it really feels like Live in Japan. “All I Want for Christmas Is You” is such an explosion of joy that closes the show. After all, this song is special. Only Japan sang this song on this “#1’s TOUR”. Mariah enthusiastically sang “Arigato!” and “Aishitemas!!” while Nippon Budokan responded with “I love you!” and “Mariahhhh!!”. It is a live album that allows you to immerse your whole body in that blissful space. Following Huey Lewis and Celine Dion, this is the work of a master who has achieved the finest sound at Nippon Budokan. And what’s inside is a gorgeous group of famous songs, a wonderful singing voice that still hasn’t faded, and the bond between her and Japan. Mariah may have conquered the world, but Japan is still special. This is a masterpiece of a live album that allows you to experience this with the finest sound.
