Maceo’s first title in a while is 2008’s latest live show, Pro Shot! This was a special live performance, probably for one night only, held at a jazz festival in Spain on July 23rd. A large gathering of musicians who participated in the 2007 masterpiece, 2-CD set “Roots & Grooves.” Organize a big band to back up Maceo. The stage composition is also a Ray Charles tribute, with the first half of the CD being jazz and R&B oriented. And the second half is DISC 2, Back to Funk! The thick big band sound by the first-class members is sometimes powerful, sometimes gorgeous, and Maceo’s full blow echoes. If you’re expecting just 98% funk, you’ll be disappointed in some parts, but it’s filled with the best music of Maceo’s “Roots & Grooves” that can only be heard here. The recording time will be 70 minutes.
