Description
“DESTROYER” is the unshakable standard soundboard of ZEP’s 1977 tour. Even now in the 21st century, a large number of soundboards from other performances have been excavated from the 1977 tour, and their value has not faded, but they have been further upgraded. Countless items have been released under the name “DESTROYER” for such a masterpiece soundboard, and there are probably many enthusiasts who actually own at least one of them. So, to briefly review the release of “DESTROYER”, it began as an LP box released in the early 1980s. As can be inferred from the fact that it is called “UK DESTROYER” among enthusiasts, it was released in the UK. Not only was this a groundbreaking release of the numerous PA-out soundboards of ZEP, but above all, the sound quality of this box was very good. This resulted in the production of many copies, and many American releases were produced, including the rainbow-patterned Slick “USA DESTROYER”. Even in the CD era, releases under the name “DESTROYER” continued, but the first CD version, the NZCD (=Condor) had major problems with the content before sound quality, and the blue jacket Scorpio version, which was highly praised when it was first released, actually did not reach the sound quality of the “UK DESTROYER” LP box. It was around the time of the Cobra “DESTROYER (FINAL EDITION)” that the sound quality finally reached a level comparable to “UK DESTROYER” and even surpassed it in terms of content. After that, in the 21st century, the EV version with the LP-sized jacket began to surpass “UK DESTROYER” in terms of sound quality, and as sound sources with tapes closer to the master became available, the sound quality improved further. With the arrival of the title “DESTROYER: FIRST GEN REELS”, it seemed that the release of the standard sound board for many years had finally been settled. After the same title sold out as the definitive version of the standard sound source, the 2019 version of “DESTROYER” is the masterpiece that “GRAF ZEPPELIN” thoroughly brushed up the first generation master. The board, which became an undisputed best-seller due to the wonderful finish, is now completely sold out. The standard sound board is still strong. If it is the definitive version of such a standard sound board, it can be said that stable supply to the mania market is essential, and it will be re-released by “GRAF ZEPPELIN” again. Of course, it would have been enough to reissue the 2019 version as it was, but on the other hand, it is also true that five years have passed since its release, and the first generation master can be recorded with even higher sound quality using current technology. Not wanting to miss this opportunity, GRAF ZEPPELIN once again brushed up the album. However, they did not add any unnecessary equalization, but instead meticulously adjusted the characteristics of the first generation master with the technology unique to 2024. As a result, compared to the 2019 version, the result was a more natural and wider range. In particular, the acoustic corner in the middle of the live performance has a more upper feeling this time, and you will be enchanted by the clear tone from the intro of “The Battle Of Evermore”. The stereo production of Bonzo’s “Moby Dick” and Jimmy’s “Guitar Solo” also feels richer. Especially the latter is finally transmitted to you when you listen to it with headphones. In this way, the finish is truly wonderful, befitting the new definitive version of the classic sound source. The reason why the sound board “DESTROYER”, which is a counterpart to the audience recording “LISTEN TO THIS EDDIE” on the 1977 tour, has not changed is simply because of its ease of listening. The contrast between the explosive performance of “EDDIE” and the concentrated “DESTROYER” is also attractive. The 2024 version of “DESTROYER”, which “GRAF ZEPPELIN” has worked on again with such a famous sound board, is excellent to listen to. Please enjoy the charm of the classic sound board that still does not fade with its clear sound quality. And while the jacket seems to have the same rainbow pattern as last time, unlike the 2019 version, Jimmy’s appearance has actually returned to his “USA DESTROYER” slick (I think this appearance is more suitable for maniacs). Don’t miss it! Remastering Memo I made some low and high corrections. The waveform is not crushed unnecessarily. It is a wide range sound.
