Description

Speaking of the fall 1970 US tour, the release of the definitive version, “LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL,” is still fresh in our minds. Furthermore, there’s also the famous performance at Madison Square Garden on the final day. Between these two iconic stages, the Boston Garden performance on September 9th, surprisingly often overlooked by enthusiasts, was held. On this day, there was a mono recording, Source 1, and a stereo recording, Source 2. The latter, featuring the rare stereo audio of this tour, is attractive, but on the other hand, it suffers from frequent cuts. The former, being mono, is clearer and easier to listen to, and the recording quality is stable, so Boston 70 enthusiasts may have known it through Source 1. While Source 1 doesn’t quite reach the level of Blueberry Hill, it’s very easy to listen to as an audience recording from the fall of 1970. This is why it has been considered the main source for this item released in the past. However, there were some cuts, and supplementing them with Source 2 would have made it possible to release a full-length version. Despite this, previous items only included one of the sound sources. Not only was the performance itself often overlooked by non-enthusiasts, but even the release of such a complete version was overlooked in Boston. This week’s release marks the start of the release of such a seemingly impossible complete version. While it’s certainly not difficult to fill in the missing parts of Source 1 with Source 2, simply connecting them creates a sense of incongruity between mono and stereo. Therefore, the latter was converted to mono and then thoroughly compensated. This includes meticulous editing, even from the opening announcement before the show, and the longest recording of the scene explaining how the Eagle Rock Festival, originally scheduled to take place in Boston on August 14, was rescheduled after being canceled. This alone should give you an idea of the attention to detail that went into making this release. Since the version of Source 2 used for this compensation, which is available online, contained unnecessary cuts, this time we used the trader version, which does not go through the internet. This restores the inter-song gaps between “Bring It On Home” and “That’s The Way,” which were previously cut from the online version, without any cuts. Source 1 is also noticeably better than the versions on which previous releases were based. The distortion, particularly from the acoustic section, which was a common problem in previous releases, has been reduced, making it much easier to listen to. Meanwhile, the bonus track includes Source 2 versions of the final two tracks. While these tracks can be enjoyed in deep stereo recording, “Whole Lotta Love” frequently suffers from cuts specific to this source. By meticulously revising Source 1, the final two tracks can be enjoyed in full stereo, while still retaining the original sound. This “Whole Lotta Love” track seems to have been released live immediately after Blueberry Hill, as the band struggles to decide how to transition from the faster-paced “For What It’s Worth” to “Some Other Guy.” The completely different atmosphere is a great feature of ZEP’s work at this time. What’s more, during the early part of the concert, Plant completely messed up the song structure during “Heartbreaker,” but it didn’t affect the performance at all, a truly amusing detail that’s unique to this period. In fact, Plant’s thunderous screams are evident throughout the entire performance, and even the unreleased instrumental “Bron-Yr-Aur,” just like at the LA Forum in Blueberry Hill, captures this unique moment in a truly enjoyable sound. This full-length release of Boston’s first 1970 album, often overlooked until the very end, is groundbreaking. The sound quality and performance are astonishingly superb! Remastering Notes: The audio source is primarily edited for best sound quality, and the entire album is uncut, including inter-song segments. Bonus tracks include Source 2 (stereo Audio) supplemented with pseudo-complete versions of “Muneippai” and “Communication.” Source 1: Mono Audio. The latter half of the live performance first appeared on LP. The second half of this recording first appeared on CD in the mid-90s on the Holy record. A full-length live performance appeared in the 2000s. This is the main recording on this release. – Src2: Stereo Audio recording. This is the second Audio recording that was not released during the LP era and first appeared on a SIRA CD around 1995. This time, it has been converted to mono and used to fill in a few missing parts, such as the live intro. The bonus track is stereo.
