Description

This time we’re introducing the UK original version of Zep’s fifth album, Houses of the Holy, which was released in March 1973 and reached number one on both the UK and US charts. Some of the songs from this album were played as new songs at the second performance in Japan in October 1972. Fans also know that “The Song Remains The Same” had the working title “The Overture.” Also, at the first performance in Japan in September of the previous year, songs from “?”, which had just been released, were played as new songs. It is a very moving experience now that the two performances in Japan were both live performances of new songs. Now, this original UK edition of “Houses of the Holy” has no W mark on the label, the catalog number is K standard, and the matrix section is engraved with “A2 STERLING RL” on side A and “B2 STERLING RL” on side B. One disc is said to be the first edition (this work, like the previous work, seems to use the same stamper as the US version). Yes, the fact that it has the “RL” stamp means that it was cut by Bob Ludwig, just like the US original version “?”. Although they were cut by the same person, the difference in the sound of “?” is obvious. First of all, regarding the sound pressure, unlike “?”, I cannot say that the cutting level is particularly high. But given the variety of content on this album, it’s understandable. Rather than a powerful sound, a mellow and warm sound might be the correct expression. If I were to explain it more clearly, it might be more correct to say that the bass sounds are a pleasant sound without relying on sound pressure. If I were to tell you this in the style of an analog fan, I would say that the sound is similar to a high-quality MFSL record. Also, some of W Mark Ali’s reissues have George Peckham’s stamp on the matrix such as A1 PORKY and B1 PECKO, so why is there Matrix 1 even though it is a reissue? There is also a mystery that makes collectors cry. Of course, this time as well, we place emphasis on the UK original disc, so we are using a UK disc that is in excellent condition and is stamped with A2 STERLING RL/B2 STERLING RL. Please take this opportunity to enjoy the exquisite sound of the UK original version of “Houses of the Holy”!
