Description

Speaking of the masterpiece “LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL” that made the world aware of the charm of ZEP live performances, it would be the LP released by TMOQ under the brand name BLIMP. Speaking of the concert at the LA Forum on September 4, 1970, which was included in the LP’s source, another audience recording included in “LIVE AT THE LOS ANGELES FORUM 9-4-70” released by rival label RUBBER DUBBER, was barely known among enthusiasts. That is how huge the presence of TMOQ/BLIMP sources and LPs was. In fact, the concert on that day was the first to be sealed on CD, so the sound quality is timeless. Then, the situation that TMOQ/BLIMP sources and LPs were taken for granted for a long time suddenly changed in the 1990s. It was released with the claim that “the sound source of that LP was actually a stereo recording.” Starting with the nostalgic MUD DOGS label, the newly released Blueberry Hill sound source was created with the impact of an audience recording with a stereo sound quality that had never been seen before. At that time, it was believed that there were only two types of sound sources for the September 4th show, so this stereo sound source was touted as a stereo upper version of the TMOQ source. However, when you actually listen to it, the moment the intro of “Heartbreaker” started, a woman’s scream that was not in the TMOQ source reverberated from the right channel. Thanks to her voice, enthusiasts quickly realized that it was a different sound source from the TMOQ source. Even if you listened calmly for a moment, it was easy to tell that it was a completely different recording, but just because it was that Blueberry Hill day, the misunderstanding that it was a stereo version of the same sound source was prevalent, so it was still a simple era. In fact, it was just a third source that appeared, but there is a reason why this stereo sound source was misunderstood as a TMOQ source. After all, it captured ZEP’s performance with a sound image that was not defeated by it. There can’t be so many sound sources with such a close sound image… Such a thought probably gave rise to the misunderstanding that it was a stereo version of the TMOQ source. However, in the 1990s, even other stereo audience recordings were unearthed, and it became clear that there were many high-quality sound sources of the legendary Blueberry Hill show. The third sound source that set the precedent for such a different sound source, that is, “source 3”, will be released on CD. Speaking of another stereo sound source of this day, the release from our shop based on the Winston Remaster version is still fresh in my memory, but compared to that, the sound source this time has a richer sense of realism and a wider clarity, which is a big attraction. Compared to the sound source that was the basis of the Winston Remaster, the sound quality is more analog-like, which is also the charm of source 3. The TMOQ source has the same taper as the Rolling Stones’ “LIVE’R THAN YOU’LL EVER BE” and was recorded using the same AKG shotgun microphone as at that time, so it has a mono sound quality, and it has a unique recording state with a low cheering level. It is true that there was a great advantage to recording with a shotgun microphone in terms of being able to hear the performance, but it is true that there were times when the venue seemed quiet. In that respect, this source 3 perfectly captures the warm presence of the sweet relationship between the LA Forum and ZEP, and above all, the enthusiasm of ZEP concerts, whose popularity in the United States began to grow, is what makes it so appealing. And yet, it is not so balanced that it blocks the performance, and it is wonderful that you can listen to it without stress. Another attractive feature of source 3 is that there are almost no cuts that affect the performance. In the sound source that we have released twice in the past, including the Winston Remaster version (“source 5”), there was a fatal cut in which the recording ended in the middle of “Bron-Yr-Aur”, but there is no such trouble here, and you can listen to that acoustic piece with the same sound source. The few cuts in the song in source 3 occur in the first half of “Dazed and Confused”, but it is unlikely that you will feel any discomfort because it was carefully filled in with the previous source. You can also enjoy comparing the superb sound quality of source 5, which was recorded in the same stereo recording and boasted exceptional quality at the time. Both the realism of this sound source and the power of that sound source are big attractions. And for this release, it was recorded based on the version that appeared on the Internet under the title “LOONEY’S BLUEBERRY HILL”. The sound quality and condition are excellent enough, so of course no extra equalization was applied, but rather all the extreme pitch drops that were noticeable after “Moby Dick” were perfectly adjusted. Items released in the past, especially items released after the 21st century, were more or less equalized, even if not excessive, in order to make sense when combined with other sources. In that respect, this release in a natural state will also attract attention from enthusiasts all over the world. Despite the same high -quality stereo audience recording, you will definitely be in love with the best sound quality from the Winston Remaster version! Roduction 2. Immigrant Song 3. Heartbreaker 4.
