Description

“LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL” is a monumental ZEP live performance, or an eternal evergreen. Even now that most of the audience recordings that exist in the world have been excavated, the LA Forum performance on September 4, 1970 has not faded at all. Since its release under the name “LIVE ON ~” by the legendary TMOQ label in the early days of bootlegs themselves, countless items have been produced up to the present day. Our shop has also released a version that recorded a high-quality audience recording known as “cobra source” without any tinkering. As expected of the highest peak of ZEP’s 1970 live sound source, the CD released by our shop under the name “LIVE ON ~” sold out in an instant. Nevertheless, the requests for reissue did not cease. We were planning to reissue it soon, but when we were thinking of making a version edited from multiple sources based on the so-called “cobra source”, that master made a wonderful version for this day as well. Yes, Winston Remasters is already familiar to ZEP enthusiasts. We have released many of his famous versions, and he has also put together a wonderful edit of “LIVE ON~”. The basis for Winston Remasters is “cobra source” or “recorder 4”. This is a great recording that rivals the TMOQ sound source, which has a powerful sound mass. The “cobra source” is similarly high quality, but it is also recorded in stunning stereo sound quality. As with our previous release, the Winston Remasters version also uses the 2nd generation sound source. For the part where the recording ended immediately after the start of “Bron-Yr-Aur”, which is a characteristic of the “cobra source”, the TMOQ mono source is patched. In addition, the announcement by the host before ZEP’s appearance, and the missing parts from the latter half of “Moby Dick” to the beginning of “Whole Lotta Love” are filled in by the mono sound source of “recorder 5”. It seems possible to put together the whole story with a sound source with a unified sound image like the past titles, but the sense of using a mono sound source for “Bron-Yr-Aur” may be unique to Winston Remasters. Winston Remasters has also applied equalization to suppress hiss noise to the main “cobra source”, and the finish is also impressive, and the sound source, which was originally easy to listen to, has evolved to a state where it can be listened to with even more peace of mind. However, one of the major negative points of the Winston Remasters version was that the pitch dropped considerably after the previously edited “Bron-Yr-Aur”. Moreover, since this happened with an acoustic instrumental, the discomfort caused by the pitch deviation was considerable. If it is a “LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL” show, recording with accurate pitch is an absolute requirement. While Winston Remasters has a good sense of editing multiple sources, it is often seen that the pitch is careless. Therefore, in this release, this problem has been thoroughly adjusted. The 1970 ZEP live performance has been completed to a state where you can listen to the best of the live performance with peace of mind until the end, making it a more valuable release as an item. There are surprisingly many sound sources for the “LIVE ON BLUEBERRY HILL” show, and over the past decade, there have been items that can be called a culmination of the show, which can be said to be a kind of perfect sound source from a maniac’s point of view. However, it is the most important live performance before the first visit to Japan in 929, and above all, it is a great sound source that made the ZEP live performance known in 1970. There is still a need for easy items with a great sense of stability that can be listened to with peace of mind with one title. That’s where Winston Remasters is perfect. Because he put it together with his brilliant editing sense, he polished it up to a perfect state, and this release is an evergreen item of the 1970 live performance that can be enjoyed by anyone, not just ZEP fans. This is an item that anyone can enjoy, a famous sound source that captures the dynamism of young ZEP in the best condition from the opening to the ending. If you want to listen to a non-official ZEP live performance, start with this one. There is an incredible audience recording that was left with an incredible sound quality even in 2017, let alone in 1970. And above all, ZEP’s performance is the best!
