Description

“DAY 4” will be released following the highly popular “FILLMORE WEST 1969 DAY 2”. This is also one of the classic sound sources that captured the masterpiece produced by ZEP from Fillmore in January 1969. Classic also applies to sound quality, and the recording condition is a vintage audience that is like the rough sound quality of “DAY 2”. However, the performance content was as fulfilling as “DAY 2”, and the performance time could fit on one CD, so several items have been created. However, no new items have been released recently, and as time has passed, there may have been many enthusiasts who have never heard of this day. Under such circumstances, the current definitive version is GRAFF ZEPPELIN’s “FRESH GARBAGE: FILLMORE WEST JANUARY 1969″, which is the culmination of January’s Fillmore sound source. Up to that point, the “DAY 4” items had poor pitch instability that was common in vintage audiences, and although it would have been nice to have equalization done to soften the old-fashioned texture and highlight the contours of the performance, There were also items that looked unnatural because of this. The best version that solved these problems was “FRESH GARBAGE”. However, this time, we have thoroughly restored this sound source based on the 1st gen. version released by Krw_co, a well-known name in the online sound source world. First, we thoroughly adjusted the unstable pitch, which is the biggest problem. Even more problematic was the sound quality, which was old-fashioned and muffled. Speaking of vintage audiences, it sounds good, but in the case of this sound source, it tends to be a little too vintage. Therefore, it is true that up until now, it has been a sound source that has tended to be avoided compared to “DAY 2″. In this release, as a result of adjusting the high frequency range, the sound quality, which was a bit muffled, has been improved considerably and is now easier to hear. “FRESH GARBAGE” also showed a wonderful finish, but I think it can be said that the last thin skin that was there has finally been removed in this version. After all, it has an old-fashioned sound quality, so the hissing noise is a concern. For example, it stands out at the beginning of “I Can’t Quit You Baby” when Robert starts alone, but if you suppress it, it will inevitably feel strange. Instead, we adjusted the high frequencies to improve listening comfort. And although it is from a maniac’s point of view, one of the advantages of this version is that the weak cuts that were present in past releases are kept to a minimum. This area can be said to be a unique strength of 1st gen. In this way, “DAY 4” has become even easier to listen to, but I feel that I am once again overwhelmed by the splendor of the performance on this day. After all, the structure of the live performance is completely different from “DAY 2”. In the first place, the opening song was “As Long I Have You” on this day. There were great performances there as well, but this day’s profound performance was even more impressive. This song is truly a representative repertoire of early ZEP live performances. Anyway, the performance is completely different from “DAY 2” and it is interesting, and I thought that “Communication Breakdown” was performed with a simpler development than that day, but this time, the development of “How Many More Times” is completely different. It is a very unusual development compared to “DAY 2” or even other performances in January, and Jimmy’s bowing etc. are interesting as he plays rare oriental phrases. And the best part is that they play “The Train Kept A Rollin’” after Jimmy’s instrumental “White Summer / Black Mountain Side”. I can’t believe it’s not the opening, but a performance like this. What’s even more unusual is that they will close out the live performance with “Killing Floor.” It was clear from Plant’s MC that it was really the last number played, but it was a surprising ending. Robert effortlessly explodes with screams no matter what song he sings, and Jimmy plays tricky phrases with ease. The definitive version of “DAY 4”, which was often overlooked until now, is finally here at the Fillmore in January 1969, when ZEP held their most creative stage! (Remaster Memo) Corrected the randomly quite slow pitch as much as possible. The treble was too weak, so I adjusted it. It is several steps clearer than the original sound Fillmore West, San Francisco, CA, USA 12th January 1969 (UPGRADE) (77:55) 1. Intro 2. As Long As I Have You with Fresh Garbage / Mockingbird / Bag’s Groove / Baby Please Don’t Go 3. I Can’t Quit You incl. Don’t Know Which Way To Go 4. Dazed And Confused 5. Babe, I’m Gonna Leave You 6. Communication Breakdown 7. You Shook Me 8. White Summer / Black Mountainside 9. The Train Kept A-Rollin’ 10. Pat’s Delight 11. How Many More Times incl. The Hunter 12. Killing Floor incl.
