Description
Eric Carr’s final and biggest tour, even during his no-makeup days, was the “HOT IN THE SHADE Tour.” Now, a soundboard album has been created that will immerse you in the full show. This work was filmed at the Auburn Hills performance on May 18, 1990. It’s a stereo soundboard recording of that performance. Speaking of the “1990 Auburn Hills SBD,” the classic album “DETROIT 1990 SOUNDBOARD: THE OCTOBER SHOW” is still fresh in our minds, but this work is, of course, a completely different one. To clarify the situation, let’s first take a bird’s-eye view of the band’s activities at the time and then delve into the position of this work. 1989 (October 17th: “HOT IN THE SHADE” released) 1990 March 11th – April 25th: Warm-up (3 shows) May 4th – August 8th: North America #1 (64 shows) ←★here★ August 16th – November 9th: North America #2 (57 shows) ←※THE OCTOBER SHOW 1991 (November 24th: Eric Carr passes away) This is KISS from 1989 to 1991. “DETROIT 1990 SOUNDBOARD: THE OCTOBER SHOW” is, as the name suggests, an October live performance. In other words, it was a live album that was the final part of “North America #2.” In contrast, this work was a May performance. It was the 11th performance of “North America #1,” which was the early part of the tour. This show is known for the preservation of the tour’s most representative pro shots, and the highest-end version, “DETROIT MAY 1990 UPGRADE,” has been a huge hit. This work is not a sound drop of such a classic pro shot. It was probably the same soundboard console at the time of recording, but it’s the best version with a different route. In fact, the details are even finer, the separation is good, and the balance from high to low is dynamic. The pro shot sound is also of sufficient quality when accompanied by video, but closing your eyes and focusing only on the sound makes it feel flatter than this work. This work is a powerful new master as a music work that does not rely on the power of video. Such a top-notch sound is depicted in the full show at the beginning of the “HOT IN THE SHADE Tour,” which is different from the masterpiece “DETROIT 1990 SOUNDBOARD: THE OCTOBER SHOW.” Let’s organize the set by comparing them here. 70s Classics (12 songs) ・KISS: Deuce / Strutter / Black Diamond / Cold Gin ・DESTROYER: Shout It Out Loud / God Of Thunder / Detroit Rock City ・Other: I Stole Your Love / Calling Dr. Love / Love Gun / I Want You / Rock And Roll All Nite 80s (10 songs) ・LICK IT UP: Fits Like A Glove / Lick It Up ・ANIMALIZE: Heaven’s On Fire / Under The Gun (★★) ・HOT IN THE SHADE: Rise To It (★) / Hide Your Heart / Forever ・Other: Crazy Crazy Nights / I Love It Loud / Tears Are Falling *Note: “★” indicates songs that were not included in the October footage included in “KISSOLOGY VOLUME TWO.” In particular, “★★” indicates songs that were not included in the classic album “DETROIT 1990 SOUNDBOARD: THE OCTOBER SHOW.” …and so it goes. “I Was Made for Lovin’ You” was performed at the Detroit show in October, but at this point it was still “Under the Gun.” The detailed arrangements were interesting, with “God of Thunder” also featuring a drum solo-less version, and “Fits Like a Glove” is a rare version showcasing Gene’s unique vocal style. This version has never been sung again, and this soundboard is the only existing record. This album, taken at the end of the tour, is “DETROIT 1990 SOUNDBOARD: THE OCTOBER SHOW,” and this album from the beginning, is a soundboard album representing the “HOT IN THE SHADE Tour” in a contrasting position, albeit at the same venue. A masterpiece of music that allows you to enjoy the full show with the dynamic sound of a live album. This is a stereo soundboard recording of the “May 18, 1990 Auburn Hills Show.” While the pro shots are also famous, this work is a newly discovered soundboard master that is different from that. The details are even more detailed than the pro-shot audio, the separation is good, and the balance from high to low tones is dynamic. You can also enjoy a delicious full show of “Under The Gun,” which was not heard on the masterpiece “DETROIT 1990 SOUNDBOARD: THE OCTOBER SHOW” six months later, and “Fits Like A Glove,” a rare version of “God Of Thunder” without a drum solo.
