Description

A treasured studio album has been released, revealing the secrets behind the masterpiece “DRESSED TO KILL”! This definitive album, which lets you get a complete collection of alternate versions of classic tracks in one go, is now available! This album permanently preserves 14 songs and 31 takes in studio recordings. All of these are stereo soundboard recordings from the “DRESSED TO KILL” production sessions. While the large number of “DRESSED TO KILL” demos unearthed in the official Super Deluxe Edition is still fresh in our memory, this album goes beyond that and offers a complete version with even more content. Furthermore, this album not only includes album tracks, but also takes from the same sessions that were never released. Let’s take a look at each one. Alternate versions of album tracks (10 songs, 24 takes) *Note: “★” indicates songs not available in the Super Deluxe Edition of “DRESSED TO KILL.” “*” indicates five tracks from the Lullaby Studio Sessions: Rock Bottom (Instrumental Outtake), Ladies In Waiting (Alternate Ending), Getaway (Instrumental Outtake), C’mon And Love Me (Alternate Mix), and She (Instrumental Extended Outtake). This album is primarily comprised of alternate versions of the 10 tracks featured on the album. While each track has a different number of takes, the first five tracks feature only one take. While all five tracks are clearly different from the final versions upon first listen, they are all of official quality. According to the importer’s documentation, these tracks appear to have been leaked during the production of the official Super Deluxe Edition, and are strikingly similar in both sound and content. Even the vivid countdowns and brief conversations that capture the studio atmosphere are fully included. Two takes of “Room Service” and “Love Her All I Can” are included: Room Service: Instrumental Outtake/Extended Outtake; Love Her All I Can: Alternate Mix/Instrumental Outtake. “Room Service” and “Love Her All I Can” each feature two takes, one with vocals and one instrumental. “Love Her All I Can (Alternate Mix)” is particularly impressive, a masterpiece featuring a light and cool acoustic rhythm guitar. “Two Timer” (three versions): Extended Alternate Mix/Alternate Mix/Instrumental Outtake. The following “Two Timer” features three takes. While the official Super Deluxe Edition had a fairly random structure, this release seems to have more takes as it progresses. The highlights here are the two alternate versions incorporating acoustic guitar. The “Alternate Mix” in particular is a completely unplugged version, revealing the song’s true essence. “Anything For My Baby” (5 versions), Extended Alternate Mix, Alternate Mix (*), Take 2 (★), Instrumental Extended Outtake, Studio Demo. The “Anything For My Baby” section, which closes DISC 1, features five different versions. Again, the acoustic version is the highlight, but the final “Studio Demo” is even more essential. The moment it starts, you’re greeted by the rhythm of “Rock & Roll All Nite”! The familiar riff starts playing in your head, but what you actually hear is the refrain of “Anything For My Baby♪.” Perhaps that intro could have even been used for “Anything For My Baby”… This is a must-listen take that lets you experience firsthand the studio environment that could have changed rock history. While most of this album was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in New York (February 1975), takes marked with an asterisk (*) were taken at a different session. This is a session from January 1975 at Larrabee Studios in North Hollywood. Disc 2 begins here. It includes seven versions of the iconic “Rock and Roll All Nite,” including an instrumental outtake, an alternate studio demo (★), a studio demo – alternate vocal take, a studio demo, the party version, a fast version, and a final take (★*). While the official Super Deluxe Edition only had five versions, this release is the complete version, including the “alternate studio demo” and “final take,” both of which weren’t even available in the pricey box set. Each version is completely different from the full version, but “The Party Version” is particularly interesting. Party sound effects are overdubbed throughout, adding a festive feel to the song. Perhaps this is exactly how it should have been. The faster-paced “Fast Version” is also a highlight. This masterpiece evokes the excitement of a live performance. Tracks not included on the album (4 songs, 7 takes) *Note: ★ indicates tracks not included on the Super Deluxe Edition of “DRESSED TO KILL.” * indicates tracks from the Lullabee Studio sessions. “Burning Up With Fever” (3 versions), Studio Demo/Mix 2 (★*), and Take 2 (★) are tracks from the final section of the album that were produced during the “DRESSED TO KILL” sessions but didn’t make it onto the album. First up is “Burning Up With Fever.” While it was eventually included on Gene Simmons’ solo album, it was also demoed during the “DRESSED TO KILL” and “DESTROYER” sessions. Of course, it’s the former that’s featured on this release. These three versions feature different arrangements and tempos. While the “Studio Demo” was also available on the official Super Deluxe Edition, “Mix 2” and “Take 2” are treasures exclusive to this release. Two versions of “Mistake” are included, including “Mistake” (two versions) and a Studio Demo with Ace Frehley Solo (★*). The highlight, “with Ace Frehley Solo,” is a highlight, not included in the official Super Deluxe Edition. While the solo is omitted from the official version, this version features Ace Frehley’s solo. One version each of “It’s the Fire” and “Doncha Hesitate” are included, along with “It’s the Fire” (★) and “Doncha Hesitate (Outtake)” (★). The album closes with “It’s the Fire” and “Doncha Hesitate,” two tracks omitted from the official Super Deluxe Edition. “Doncha Hesitate (Outtake)” is also different from the official 2001 “THE BOX SET” version. This compilation of studio treasures spans 100 minutes and 45 seconds, spanning 31 takes. The much talked about 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition of “DRESSED TO KILL” is an expensive set, costing tens of thousands of yen even on the official website, but this is a complete collection of alternate versions, including alternate takes not even available on the official website. It’s truly a definitive compilation, a culmination of 50 years. This studio track collection gives you a complete collection of alternate versions of the “DRESSED TO KILL” classics in one go. It not only includes the numerous takes unearthed in the 50th Anniversary Super Deluxe Edition, but also boasts even more content. This is the birth of a definitive compilation, a culmination of 50 years, making the expensive official set unnecessary. Electric Lady Studios.
