Description
From the UK tour accompanying “ANIMALIZE” in 1984, the performance at the Garmont Theatre in Ipswich was recorded from the radio broadcast of the familiar “FRIDAY ROCK SHOW”, which also features the late Tommy Vance’s DJ. The main act Kiss and the young Bon Jovi, who served as the opening act, are recorded in high-quality stereo line recordings, and although there are occasional parts where air check noise can be heard, the sound quality is much better than that of the previous releases, and you can listen to everything that was broadcast (the tape provider is that CRAZY S.! The quality is as expected of a maniac). First of all, Kiss, recorded on disc 1. This sound source itself has been released many times with different titles since the days of the analog bootleg, but this time, as mentioned above, it is fresh to release it as a coupling with the live sound source of Bon Jovi, who was the opening act. The sound quality of the air check sound source is perfect, and the separation between the left and right channels is also good. For example, the twin lead part in the opening song “DETROIT ROCK CITY” where Bruce Kulick’s lead guitar is overlapped by Paul Stanley’s guitar is very powerful. In April of the same year, the second lead guitarist Vinnie Vincent officially left the band, so Mark St. Johnson joined the band by audition (or more accurately, by recommendation). However, just before the European tour, he was diagnosed with a rare disease that caused his hands and knees to swell, and he was unable to play the guitar at all. Bruce Kulick quickly joined the band as a substitute and survived the tour, and the story is well known. After that, Bruce officially joined the band and supported Kiss for more than 10 years until the reunion in 1995 as the new star guitarist of Kiss. His enormous contribution should be highly evaluated. With “LICK IT UP,” Kiss decided to take off the makeup that was their identity and make a major shift to the heavy metal route that was mainstream at the time, and with the new young and powerful talent of Eric Carr, Kiss is performing a lively live show. Next is Bon Jovi, recorded on disc 2. This is a recording from their debut when they supported Kiss and toured around Europe for six weeks, and this has also been released as a bootleg in the past, but this version has much better sound quality than the previous releases. It’s a Crazy S. Radio sound source library, as expected. Just like Kiss, it’s a truly official sound. It’s a performance from shortly after their debut, but it’s just as heavy as Kiss. Naturally, all of the songs are from their first album, which had just been released. It’s only five songs, but you can enjoy it for 30 minutes with great sound. It’s a melodic hard rock with a solid hook and a solid groove, and when I listen to it now, I get the impression that it’s a remake of Foreigner with an 80’s edgy sound. The performance is as expected, with Tico’s powerful and tight drums and Alec’s bass, which has a strong note, and John and Richie also entertain the listeners with their performance with a full sense of scale. Naturally, Richie’s playing is heavy metal in many places, which is unimaginable now. When I listen to Roulette now, I can feel a British sound taste like Magnum or Shy (by chance), and this was probably one of the reasons why they were accepted by British fans from the time of their debut. In Get Ready, you can hear a big chorus from the audience, and you can see that the audience is enjoying Bon Jovi’s live show very much. It’s a rare and excellent air check sound source.
