This two-disc set is the first to feature the Keith Jarrett Standards Trio’s 20-minute performance at the Teatro Regio, the opera house of fame, in superb high-quality sound, which begins with the 20-minute Miles Davis-related “Autumn Leaves” and ends with the encore of Sonny Rollins’ “St. Thomas”. This work is a two-disc set that contains the complete recording of the great performance at the Teatro Regio in Italy, a historic opera house of fame, from the European tour of the Keith Jarrett Standards Trio, which had 13 performances from November to December to conclude 1990, over an hour and a half, including the encore, in superb high-quality sound with careful mastering by the label itself. The concert features two long songs, “Autumn Leaves” and “Never Let Me Go”, each lasting 20 minutes, featuring plenty of improvisation by the three members in the first half. In the second half, the piano trio’s essence was revealed through a parade of popular songs, including “Little Girl Blue,” “Solar,” “Chandra,” “Wooden You,” “Summer Night,” and an encore of “St. Thomas.” The method of adding new interpretations to famous jazz standards and cooking them up as if they were original works by the trio is nothing short of a new trio jazz. In fact, they also performed original works by the trio, but the boundaries between them were blurred. This performance is possible only when all elements are in perfect condition, including sensibility, taste, and mutual trust that cannot be expressed through technique alone!
