Description

JUDAS PRIEST in the early 90s, when Rob Halford left the band, the band was facing its biggest crisis. This out-of-print official video, produced at that turning point, is now available on DVD. The identity of this work is the video work “METAL WORKS 73-93” released in 1993. There was also a best-of album with the same title, but this is a history video released as the video version of that. Since the 1980s, with the spread of home video decks, many rock video works have been released, but by the 1990s, the types of videos have become more diverse. In addition to live videos and clip collections, many genre-specific compilations, video magazines, and other projects have been produced. At the same time, the HR/HM bubble also collapsed. There were successive changes and dissolutions of key members, and many history videos looking back on the history were released at those turning points. “History of Oz” by Ozzy Osbourne, who announced his retirement, “Story Vol.1/2” by BLACK SABBATH, who reunited with Ronnie James Dio, “Visualize” by DEF LEPPARD, who added Vivian Campbell, etc. This work can be said to be the JUDAS PRIEST edition. At the time, the shock of “Rob’s departure” was devastating, and doubts and anxieties erupted, such as “Why did this happen?” and “What will happen in the future?” Many fans even got the video in search of an explanation from the members themselves. Such a masterpiece of history was soon out of print due to the nature of the video work at that time. After that, Rob returned to metal and reunited, so there was no hope of an official DVD, and now it is difficult to even see it. That’s where this work came in. It is a meticulous reprint and DVD of the laser disc version, which was the highest quality of the official products released at the time, and the Japanese version, which was complete with bilingual subtitles essential for documentaries. The beauty of the images is undoubtedly the highest peak in history. Our shop has been involved in many LD reprints, and this is the latest. Using mint quality discs that had been treasured by core collectors, we commissioned a specialized manufacturer overseas to digitize them. All of the information contained in the LD has been transferred to DVD without leaving anything out. Many people may have realized the high quality of the collections that have been released so far, but the content of this work is the right path of historical images. Rob, Glen. Looking back on the glorious history of Priest, centering on the four people, Tipton, K.K. Downing, and Ian Hill, various celebrities have also commented on how great Priest is. The members are also luxurious, including Roger Glover and Tom Allom, local senior Ozzy Osbourne, and KERRANG editor-in-chief Jeff Burton. The juniors who were influenced by him also appear, including Sebastian Bach and Kerry King, Rick Savage, Henry Rollins, and even LIVING COLOUR. The structure is chronological. Starting with the fact that the noise of the foundry that they grew up listening to as children is the origin of metal beats, the impact of CREAM/Jimi Hendrix aspiring to be musicians, meeting the “original JUDAS PRIEST” when there were no members at the time of their debut, revisiting the club where they were first paid, and the meeting of the four of them… the early scene is detailed. Then, when the story reaches the debut stage, there are plenty of performance videos. Early songs without video have been substituted in later live performances, but the biggest impact was the BBC “The Old Grey Whistle Test” in 1975. Many people were shocked not only by the extremely rare live performances such as “Rocka Rolla” and “Dreamer Deceiver”, but also by Rob’s long hair. After that, they moved to CBS, changed their image to leather and studs, invented the metal sound, participated in historical events such as the first MONSTERS OF ROCK and the US Festival, and the suicide trial of a fan… The famous incidents in history are told. Many of the stories are famous now, but it is still interesting to hear the voices of the people involved. For example, Roger Glover said, “I can’t imagine the rock world without Priest. He’s still active,” but now Roger himself is 75 years old and still active. The sense of time is strong when he says this to the guys who were in their 40s at the time. Another great thing about history books is hearing the guys talk about what they think about each work. For example, Glenn said about “POINT OF ENTRY,” “I thought it was perfect at the time. Looking back, it may not be perfect, but it wasn’t the album that the fans expected from the band,” and he was passionate about “PAINKILLER,” saying, “It’s an example of what happens when Priest does what they want to do honestly.” The clock then quickly traces the 70s and 80s, stopping at “1993,” and the film ends with Ian saying, “The future of the band depends on what the vocalist does.” Now that I know what happened after that, even his expression and tone of voice are moving. From before the band was formed to Rob’s departure, which I could only imagine from the bio. This is a video work that summarizes the era when JUDAS PRIEST reigned as gods and created a new music, “HEAVY METAL”. Many of the live shows and clips used are incomplete (the full version DVDs of each video are listed below. Please use them as a reference for your collection), but the brilliance of the numerous comments has not faded even today. This is a piece that you can enjoy in a condensed form of the glory days.
