Description
JUDAS PRIEST has started a special tour “SHIELD OF PAIN Tour” to celebrate the 35th anniversary of the masterpiece “PAINKILLER”. The latest live album that tells the whole story is here. This work is recorded from the “Bart Filbel performance on June 18, 2025”. It is a very thick audience recording. Speaking of JUDAS PRIEST, their performance in Japan at the end of last year is still fresh in my memory, but that was only the “INVINCIBLE SHIELD Tour”. It is a different tour with a different theme from the currently ongoing “SHIELD OF PAIN Tour”. In order to explain the situation around that, let’s take a look at the overview of their activities since last year. 2024 “INVINCIBLE SHIELD Tour” ・March 11th – April 8th: Europe #1 (16 performances) ← *PARIS 2024 and others ・April 18th – May 22nd: North America #1 (21 performances) ・June 5th – July 24th: Europe #2 (23 performances) ・September 13th – October 26th: North America #2 (25 performances) ・December 5th – 13th: Japan (6 performances) ← *TOKYO 2024 and others 2025 ・April 16th – May 7th: Latin America (9 performances) “SHIELD OF PAIN Tour” ・June 12th – July 25th: Europe #3 (22 performances) ← ★Here★ ・September 16th – October 26th: North America #3 (24 performances) This is the schedule for 2024/2025 that has been announced to date. Last month’s “Latin America” was the “INVINCIBLE SHIELD Tour”, and from this month’s “Europe #3” it will switch to the “SHIELD OF PAIN Tour”. The Bad Vilbel performance in this work was the fourth concert at the beginning of the show. This work, which conveys such a show, is an ultra-tight recording with zero echoes. This day was also Bad Vilbel’s famous festival “Bad Vilbel Hessentag 2025”, and the venue was an outdoor special stage. Therefore, there is no ceiling or wall to reflect the sound, and the sound that the PA spits out is directly picked up. Of course, it is not as simple as “outdoor = famous recording”, and recording techniques suitable for the outdoors are also required. This work is also perfect in that respect. After all, the person who worked on this work is Mr. “GManOF”, a famous collector known in the collector world. If you are a HR / HM collector, you may have heard the name of the famous recording of the 1980s, but in fact it is an active taper. He is good at recording the thick sound of outdoor festivals, and this work is a new masterpiece that fully utilizes his skills, combining a super tight and direct feeling. The special set for the 35th anniversary of “PAINKILLER” that metal fans around the world have been waiting for with bated breath is drawn with such a masterful sound. Let’s organize the whole picture here. Painkiller (7 songs) All Guns Blazing (★) / Hell Patrol (★) / A Touch of Evil (★) / Night Crawler (★★) / One Shot at Glory (★) / Between the Hammer and the Anvil (★) / Painkiller Invincible Shield (3 songs) Gates of Hell (★) / The Serpent and the King (★★) / Giants in the Sky (★★) Others (10 songs) British Steel: Breaking the Law / Metal Gods (★) / Living After Midnight Others: You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’ / Freewheel Burning (★) / Firepower (★) / Solar Angels (★★) / Judas Rising (★) / Electric Eye / Hell Bent for Leather *Note: Songs marked with “★” were not performed at last year’s Japan tour. In particular, songs marked with “★★” were included in the regular set for the first time since Andy Sneap joined the band. … and so on. The axis of the show is of course the masterpiece “PAINKILLER”! They will perform all songs except “Leather Rebel” and “Metal Meltdown” (I omitted “Battle Hymn” because the above is only live performance songs, but it is played before “One Shot at Glory”). Looking at each song individually, the opening with “All Guns Blazing” is very fresh, and “Night Crawler”, which has been rejuvenated with the participation of Andy Sneap, is also wonderful. If they were going to go this far, it would have been fine to completely reproduce the album, but the other songs also have their own good points. I compared it with last year’s Japan performance as a representative of the “INVINCIBLE SHIELD Tour”, and there are so many (★) that it’s already a pain to count them. If you count without bothering, 14 of the 20 songs in the full set are replacement numbers, and new material from “INVINCIBLE SHIELD” “The Serpent and the King” and “Giants in the Sky” are also making their first appearance. There are many classics, especially “Solar Angels” since the “ANGEL OF RETRIBUTION Tour” immediately after Rob Halford’s return. It was announced that “PAINKILLER” would be featured, but I never expected it to be replaced so much… The 35th anniversary tour of “PAINKILLER” is delighting metal fans with a bold set. This is the first report of the tour and a masterpiece album recorded by a famous collector himself. “A super thick audience recording of the “Bart Filbel performance on June 18, 2025”. This is the latest work recorded by the famous collector “GManOF” himself, and the ultra-tight recording and direct feeling with zero echoes unique to the outdoors are wonderful.
