Description
The two performances at the Nippon Budokan on February 6th and 7th of the 2017 Japan Tour are recorded in 24-bit digital remastering on high-quality audience masters. The 2017 Japan Tour, which is the first in four years, had a total of five performances from February 1st to the special performance on the 7th, but these two days were the highlights, and the performances on both days were recorded with soundboard-level quality, with Neal Schon’s guitar and Jonathan Cain’s keyboards well balanced, and Arnel’s vocals are clear throughout. First of all, the performance on the 6th was the same set as the previous three performances, but the greatest hits live performance, which consisted of all songs from “INFINITY” to “RAISED ON RADIO”, was still moving. The special performance on the 7th, which became a big topic this time, was held with the concept of completely reproducing two of the most popular albums in the band’s career, “Escape (1981)” and “Frontiers (1983)”, which is similar to the US tour before coming to Japan. And above all, the fact that all the members from the heyday of the band except Steve Perry, including Neal Schon (G), Ross Valory (B), Jonathan Cain (Key), and Steve Smith, the drummer who was with the band during its heyday including these two albums, appeared together was a big topic, and the participation of Steve Smith, a master of the craft, drew cheers from the fans for his unchanging technical skills. And Arnel Pineda’s vocals were wonderful as usual, and he reproduced the songs from “Escape” exactly as they were on the album with vocals reminiscent of the heyday. And the cheers of joy when “Don’t Stop Believin'” began after the intro announcing the start of the show, and the songs that were performed in the same order as the album were all amazing. In addition, guest singer Travis Thibodeau added one point on both days. Although he is a support keyboardist who has accompanied the tour since 2015, he occasionally takes on the lead vocals. On the 6th, he sang “Chain Reaction”, and on the 7th, he sang three songs, “Lay It Down”, “After The Fall”, and “Frontiers”, and his vocals are different from Steve Perry and Arnel’s. In addition, the sound check on the first day, the 6th, is also recorded as a bonus track. It is interesting to see the five band members and backup singer Travis doing a thorough rehearsal before the famous album reproduction live the next day. In addition, a DVD of the first day, the 6th, is added with a complete recording of high-quality audience footage by HD camera. The view is excellent because it is almost from the front of the stage, and the entire night is perfectly reproduced with excellent shots.
