Description
A luxurious 4-disc set containing the 2-day Nippon Budokan concert, which was a highlight of the latest Japan tour, is now available. The biggest highlight of this Japan tour was the world’s first complete reproduction concert of “ESCAPE” and “FRONTIERS”. Including that, the 2-day Nippon Budokan concert is a complete recording by the same recorder. This week, the 2-CD “OSAKA 2017” Osaka performance on the first day will also be released, so let’s first check the positions of each on the schedule. ・February 1: Osaka Castle Hall “OSAKA 2017” ・February 2: Aichi Prefectural Gymnasium ・February 4: Xebio Arena Sendai ・February 6: Nippon Budokan [Discs 1 and 2 of this work] ・February 7: Nippon Budokan [Discs 3 and 4 of this work] In this way, Nippon Budokan was the final two consecutive performances. Like the other performances, “February 6” on Discs 1 and 2 was “Greatest Hits”, and Discs 3 and 4 were the highly anticipated “Famous Record Reproduction Show”. This work is a four-disc set that was made into a CD from the original master provided directly by the same recorder on both days. The quality is a wonderful masterpiece. It is more like an ideal audience than a soundboard. It is a type of recording that allows you to place yourself in an octagonal space while absorbing the enthusiasm of the site. Of course, it is different from any other audience recording. The air is transparent and clear, the musical tones are clear and vivid, and the details reach straight ahead. On top of that, Neil Schon’s guitar spins a loud melody, and Jonathan Cain’s synths sparkle. Particularly wonderful is “February 7th,” which became a “masterpiece reproduction.” I wrote earlier that it was “not like a soundboard,” but its vividness is line recording class. Arnel Pineda’s brilliant singing voice vibrates the transparent air, and it is so clear that you can even feel the switching of effects. On top of that, this work is beautiful even in the fine details of the cheers. Whether it’s “Greatest Hits” or “Famous Record Reproduction”, JOURNEY’s concerts are for the audience to immerse themselves in the super famous songs and sing along. The atmosphere in which their feelings can be heard is wonderful. Of course, the band’s performance and Arnel’s singing voice are not intimidating, but the scale of thousands of choruses is unique to live performances and audience recordings. This “feeling of being there” is a dynamism that cannot be experienced with any sound board / official live album. The two-day concert at Nippon Budokan, depicted with such a sound, is truly JOURNEY heaven. Although “February 6th (Discs 1 and 2)” is as usual, the splendor of the greatest hits, which are all songs from “INFINITY” to “RAISED ON RADIO”, is dazzling. There is no sense of pre-established harmony like an album reproduction, and the beautiful melodies and passionate singing continue to rain down as if it were a best-of album reproduction. And of course, the “famous album reproduction” of “February 7th (Discs 3 and 4)” is also wonderful. Even before the show started, everyone in the venue was familiar with “Tonight is Special”, and the excitement and tension were amazing. The cheers of joy when “Don’t Stop Believin'” began after the intro announcing the start of the show were… Some people say that the re-enactment concert, where you can predict the composition, is the same as the album when you listen to it on CD, but in addition to the great songs so far, the atmosphere where the feelings for each song explode is heart-shaking. The “world’s first special feeling” that oozes from the stage, and the “long-awaited feeling” of the audience in response. It is a special live album that is on a different level from many re-enactment concerts. Also, guest singer Travis Thibodeau adds a touch to both days. He is a support keyboardist who has accompanied the tour since 2015, but occasionally serves as lead vocalist. On this album, “February 6th (Discs 1 and 2)” he sings one song, “Chain Reaction,” and on “February 7th (Discs 3 and 4)” he sings three songs, “Lay It Down,” “After The Fall,” and “Frontiers.” His singing voice is different from Steve Perry’s or Arnel’s, but it’s extremely good. His beautiful high tones just keep growing. He was only called by name lightly, and apparently he wasn’t even shown on the screen at the scene, but his singing is so amazing that it makes any dedicated singer run away barefoot. “Greatest Hits” and the world’s first “masterpiece reproduction.” This is a complete recording of the two days that shook the Nippon Budokan, recorded by a masterful artist. It’s a four-disc set that’s delicious not only for reminiscing, but also as a collection.
