A multi-camera pro-shot video of the Stockholm performance on January 22, 1987. (The SBD recording of the Bremen performance on January 27 is also famous.) This day was structured as part 1 Dr. John → part 2 Johnny → part 3 collaboration between the two, and this video is a digest of parts 2 and 3. In 1987, they toured together with Dr. John (their collaboration was realized when they invited Dr. John as a guest on “Third Degree” (the final work of the Alligator era / Grammy-winning work) in 1986), and at this Stockholm performance, you can watch the two perform on four tracks: You Lie Too Much, Sugar Sweet, Love, Life And Money, and Jumping Jack Flash. Johnny’s Alligator era was a time when he returned to more orthodox blues, so his straight-up, raging play is very energetic, and the stunning contrast with Dr. John’s flexible play is a must-see for fans and non-fans alike. It’s also fun to see Johnny in the opening, traveling on a tour bus with a beautiful woman. Because it’s a collaboration with Dr. John, “Jumpin’ Jack Flash” with piano backing is actually very rare, and the performance is much longer than usual, probably because Johnny is into it.
