Description

Two late heroes, Johnny Winter and Dr. John. The latest unearthed live album that conveys the co-starring tour where both men overlapped sounds is now available. This work was recorded at “Paris performance on February 9, 1987”. Last year, an incomplete FM sound board was also discovered at this show, but this work is different from that. It is a completely recorded audience recording with super superb sound. Also, speaking of Johnny and the Doctor’s co-star tour, the official video “LIVE IN SWEDEN 1987” and the radio broadcast of the Bremen performance are famous, but in fact they are all from the same European tour. Let’s check each other’s positions from the schedule at that time. ・January 21: Helsinki performance ・January 22: Stockholm performance ← *Official video ・January 23-25 (3 performances) ・January 27: Bremen performance ← *FM broadcast ・January 28- February 7th (5 performances), February 9th: Paris performance ←★This work★, February 10th + 12th (2 performances), 14 performances in total. In addition to this, we held about 45 performances in 1987, all of them in North America. The Paris performance of this work is the 12th performance at the end of such a European tour. The concert was held about three weeks after “LIVE IN SWEDEN 1987”. This work recorded at such a show is truly the best. The core is very close to your eyes, with no sense of distance, and the details are also super clear. The bass is especially surprising. Each note of the attack is so clear down to the nuances that you can almost imagine the waveform of the vibe. Although it is not an extraordinarily large mix, the contours and fine parts are clear and sharp. Of course, this is surprising since the bass tends to be the weak point, and the guitars, drums, vocals, and keyboards are all balanced. What’s more, each note is neatly separated, and even when they overlap, they never mix, and the sense of stability and elegance is unbelievable. In fact, the person who recorded it boasts, “I recorded it in the front row in front of Johnny!” so there is no doubt that it is in the audience. However, even if you know it in your head, it is a tremendous sound that you can’t help but think, “Isn’t this the full-length version of the FM sound board?” What is depicted with such a transcendental sound is a show that is very different from “LIVE IN SWEDEN 1987”. As mentioned above, the FM sound board appeared earlier in this show, so let’s organize the set while comparing. ・SECOND WINTER: Highway 61 Revisited/Johnny B Goode ・CAPTURED LIVE!: Bony Moronie/It’s All Over Now ・GUITAR SLINGER: Don’t Take Advantage Of Me (★) ・SERIOUS BUSINESS: Sound The Bell (★) ・THIRD DEGREE :Third Degree/Mojo Boogie(★) ・Others: Succotash(★)/I Walk on Guilded Splinters(◆)/Sick And Tired(◆)/Let The Good Times Roll(◆)/Those Lonely, Lonely Nights *Note: Songs marked with “★” were cut from FM broadcasts. “◆” marks are songs co-starred with Dr. John. …and it looks like this. The FM sound board was small enough to fit on one CD, but for this work, the opening parts “Succotash”, “Sound The Bell”, “Don’t Take Advantage Of Me” and “Mojo Boogie”, which were not broadcast, were increased, and the length was 1 hour. 47 minutes of full kale. Moreover, the set is very different from “LIVE IN SWEDEN 1987”, and only the aforementioned “Sound The Bell”, “Don’t Take Advantage Of Me” and “Mojo Boogie” overlap. You can enjoy a valuable joint tour with all other repertoires. Also, although this tour became a hot topic due to Doctor’s participation, he did not perform on all songs. The first part (= DISC 1) is a regular concert with a trio formation, and the doctor appears in the second part (= the first three songs of DISC 2). He also sings the main song on “I Walk on Guilded Splinters” and “Let The Good Times Roll.” Johnny Winter and Dr. John even went on a tour together after appearing as guests on the Grammy Award-winning “THIRD DEGREE.” This is a masterpiece of a live album that allows you to experience the best of a rare tour where a million dollar guitarist from Texas and a heavyweight from New Orleans shared the stage. It’s a super-excellent sound that makes it hard to believe it’s an audience, and it’s a two-disc set that’s far more authentic than the half-baked FM broadcast.
