Description
Also known as the Tough Tenors, Eddie Lockjaw Davis and Johnny Griffin were two tenor quintets who shone brightly in the jazz world in the early 60s. This live performance at Seattle’s prestigious jazz club, the Penthouse, on October 10th and 11th, 1962, was recorded on a high-quality soundboard. This is the first recording of all nine songs by the Tough Tenors at the Penthouse, known as the stage for many great performances. Both had a strong blues feeling and a big tone, and their combination was fully demonstrated in the live performance.
