Description
John Mayer is performing in Japan for the first time in five years. Introducing the best original recording that records the first day, which also included a luxurious collaboration with Ed Sheeran. This performance in Japan will only be held for two days at the Nippon Budokan. This week, two original recordings will be released simultaneously. This work is the first installment. This is an audience recording that completely records the first day “April 10, 2019” performance. Its quality is a beautiful sound that has both a strong core and a beautiful sound. The powerful core reaches straight with almost no sense of distance, and the details are very vivid. After the opening song “Helpless,” the MC says, “Tonight in Tokyo! It’s been a long time, isn’t it?” with a pronunciation unlike any foreigner’s, and the nuance of not only one word, but even one syllable is clear. However, it is not like the core is exposed like a sound board. When I listen carefully with headphones, I can notice the acoustics of the venue, but it’s wonderful because it doesn’t create a sense of distance or cloudiness. The core of the performance and singing voice that comes from the front is bright like a laser beam, and the ringing that rises like an aura has a three-dimensional effect that seems to spread behind the head. Moreover, it gives an exquisite luster and makes the guitar of John, who is considered one of the “three great guitarists of today”, sexy. It is a sample of audience recording that allows you to fully enjoy the spectacle, ease of listening, and beauty. What is even more surprising is the unusually low audience noise. If you listen carefully with headphones, you can hear the lively applause, but it is too out of proportion to the powerful performance sound. Not only is it quiet during the performance, but the applause that spreads between songs feels strangely distant, and you will forget that it is an audience recording unless you listen to it with headphones. The show drawn with such a sound is wonderful. This set is broadly divided into four parts: “Band Set #1 (10 songs)” → “Acoustic (3 songs)” → “Band Set #2 (9 songs)” → “Encore (2 songs)” composition. This flow is common to Nippon Budokan 2DAYS, but the content is completely different. A total of 24 songs will be played on both days, but only 8 of them are the same. Now let’s organize the contents of the set. ●“ROOM FOR SQUARES (1 song)”・No Such Thing ●“HEAVIER THINGS (1 song)”・Acoustic: Daughters ●“CONTINUUM (6 songs)”・Common for both days: Belief (co-starring Ed Sheeran), Slow Dancing in a Burning Room, Gravity・Vultures, Stop This Train, In Repair ●“WHERE THE LIGHT IS (1 song)”・Acoustic: Free Fallin’ ●“BATTLE STUDIES (2 songs)”・Who Says, Edge of Desire ●“BORN AND RAISED (5 songs)”・Common for both days: Something Like Olivia・Queen of California, Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey, Born and Raised ・Acoustic: Walt Grace’s Submarine Test, January 1967 ●”PARADISE VALLEY (1 song)”・Paper Doll ●“THE SEARCH FOR EVERYTHING (4 songs)”・Common for both days: Moving On and Getting Over, In the Blood・Helpless, Still Feel Like Your Man Forever in Me ●New songs・Other (3 songs)・Common for both days: New Light, I Guess I Just Feel Like cover: Thinking Out Loud (co-starring Ed Sheeran)…and it goes like this. The album is centered on three albums, including “CONTINUUM”, “BORN AND RAISED”, and the latest album “THE SEARCH FOR EVERYTHING”, and is selected from all of his previous works. It’s not necessarily a selection of the best, as there aren’t any classics like “Why Georgia” or “Waiting on the World to Change,” but it’s also a culmination show where all the album covers come to mind as you listen to each song. There is. The highlight is the guest who appears in the middle. Ed Sheeran, who had performed live at Tokyo Dome the day before on April 9th, participated. You can listen to the gorgeous collaboration in two songs. After “Whiskey, Whiskey, Whiskey” is over, I introduce the guests, but they keep saying things like “I’d like to introduce you to a special friend of mine” and “He’s such a lovely guy,” but he doesn’t say his name easily. And at the end, when he says, “Welcome, I’m Ed Sheeran,” a huge cheer erupts! There was also a yellow voice (in the distance) that was clearly different from the previous listening mood. Then, in “Belief”, John and Ed overlap the guitars and take turns taking vocals. The second song is “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed. When Ed slowly started singing from the light cutting intro, it got really exciting. Again, the applause sucked into this work is so small that it is outside the common sense of audience recording. However, the excitement is still clearly visible. Budokan suddenly became heated at this point, and continued to heat up towards the highlight of the final stage. It is a live album where you can experience the scene with the best sound. John Mayer returned to Nippon Budokan for the first time in five years. In addition to a set that overlooks his career to date, it was a luxurious night where he even co-starred with Ed Sheeran. This is a masterpiece original recording that completely encapsulates the first day of Nippon Budokan with the finest sound. Live in Japan truly represents the modern music scene.
