Description
Jeff Beck’s “Live In Japan” from 2015 is here. Last year’s nationwide Japan tour is still fresh in our memory, but this time he came to Japan to perform at the “Blue Note JAZZ FESTIVAL in JAPAN”, and a special gig of clubhouse scale was realized only in Tokyo and Osaka. This work is an audience album that contains the “September 25, 2015 ZEPP TOKYO performance” on the first day of the three performances. “ZEPP TOKYO 2015” was released, but this work was a different recording that arrived one step later. Of course, the original master provided by the recorder himself was used directly. “ZEPP TOKYO 2015” was also an extremely wonderful recording, but this work is even more amazing and clear sound. “ZEPP TOKYO 2015” was ultra-clear, but the bass was powerful to the point of being almost vibrating, but in comparison, this one has a well-balanced balance and the mid- and high-pitched sounds come out. Of course, the bass is not thin, and the picking nuances of each note are clearer than the bass, which is supported by a thick sound. The main character of this work is Jeff Beck himself, who comes to life with this sound. In “ZEPP TOKYO 2015,” the image was that the sound cut in from the plump bass, but here the guitar is bright enough to subjugate all the instruments. The guitar sound stands out in more detail, and when listening with headphones, you get the illusion of playing it right next to your ear. The tone that sounds with such a sound that can be called “recorded for guitar” is truly exquisite. The opening “Even Odds,” which appears from the chaotic sound of each instrument, is suddenly sharp. The ever-changing guitar dances in the sound world built by the synth sound, and the bass and drums are as if they are partners in the dance. The guitar always takes the lead in the dance, but the bass does not just follow it, and the sound is so clear that you can hear it clearly. It is a truly fascinated masterpiece. The 2014 Japan tour was also the official work “LIVE IN TOKYO 2014”, but this tour was the same band with the addition of vocalist Jimmy Hall. The show included 10 instrumental songs and 7 vocal songs inherited from the previous tour, plus the aforementioned “Even Odds”, “Lonnie On The Move” and “Nadia”. The vocal numbers are what catch your ear. Jimmy Hall sings passionately in accordance with the tradition of rock, and when combined with Jeff, who is always renewing the possibilities of the guitar, it creates a unique worldview. The contrast between “listening with emotion” and “listening with emotion” is drawn, creating a big ups and downs in the whole show. And of course the instrumentals are worth listening to. Many of the songs are the same as last year’s tour, so those memories are vividly revived, but because the impression is so strong, you are hit with a different feeling somewhere. Last year’s tour was hall class, but this time it’s a special gig on a club scale. The intimacy and closeness are extraordinary. The silence resonates even with the hiss from the amp, and the rawness of even the vibrations of the air floating in the space. Combined with the incredible high sound quality, it feels like Jeff and I are in a closed room playing in the studio just for me. Jeff Beck in 2015, only three times. Although it is a “continuation of 2014”, it is a live album with a different flavor. You can listen to it as a sibling of last year’s masterpiece titles, or you can walk the cutting edge with Jeff.
