Description
This work is a reprint from the original double LP “GREEK TO ME (Monomatapa Records 34-010)”, which has become legendary with its yellow jacket. What is recorded there is “September 9, 1980 Los Angeles Performance”. The masterpiece “THERE AND BACK” was released in June 1980, and the North American tour started on August 31st with Simon Phillips, Mo Foster, and Tony Hymas, who also participated in the album. The Los Angeles performance of this work is the 6th performance, which is the very early stage. I was able to listen to “L.A. NIGHTS” on this day, but this work is a completely different recording. The sound is full of the warmth typical of analog, yet wonderfully clear. The “Greek Theater” where the venue was set is an outdoor venue that can accommodate about 6,000 people, so it can’t be denied that there is a sense of distance, but on the other hand, the musical sounds are so solid that you wouldn’t think it was such a huge space. It also stands out. Not only the nuances of the guitar, but even the vibe of the synth that makes the bass roar are smooth. The original analog disc was in like-new condition and had been treasured by a domestic LP collector, and scratch noise was carefully removed one by one. The original LP recorded the pitch about a semitone higher, but we have corrected it to the correct pitch. Unfortunately, the cassette master that is the recording itself has not been found, but we aimed for the highest quality currently possible on earth. Although the original LP is a 2-disc set, it does not include the entire show, but is a shortened version of the show, with songs such as “Led Boots” and “Going Down” not included (the original LP is credited with “Blue Wind” onward missing). However, this was a mistake at the time). With the appearance of another full recording “L.A. NIGHTS” on the same day, there was a feeling that the role had already finished, but when you listen to this sound, another emotion arises. What comes out of the speakers is a sound that brings back the days when I put it on a turntable over and over again, and it is also a sound that is more beautiful than anything I can remember. This is a strange piece of music that mixes “nostalgia” and “freshness” with Jeff at his peak and in top form. The long history of audience recording, Jeff’s history, and the history of the maniacs who have continued to love him, the traditional recording is also deep, filled with the weight and feelings of that. “Very early tour” and “late tour”, “new masterpiece” and “traditional recording”. We hope you will fully enjoy the “1980 Jeff Beck” that shows off his different expressions. A live album packed with those feelings for 78 minutes and 15 seconds will be delivered to you this weekend. Live at Greek Theatre, Los Angeles, CA.
