Description

JAPAN in 1981, when “GENTLEMEN TAKE POLAROIDS” became a hit and their popularity increased in their home country of England. A soundboard album that conveys that stage has been decided to be released. This work includes “February 7, 1981 Hammersmith Odeon performance”. This is a stereo soundboard recording recorded for the famous BBC program “IN CONCERT”. However, this is not the original British broadcast. A version of the special program “Overseas Rock Hour” that was broadcast on a certain Japanese Broadcasting Corporation at the time. At our store, we have archived a number of music programs using Air Check Master, a recording enthusiast, and this work is one of them. This program was a continuous project that was broadcast for 5 days, and the final night was the “JAPAN special” (the other episodes were “QUEEN”, “THE CRUSADERS”, “Eastern European Rock”, and “XTC”). This work is also a radio album that includes a complete recording of the program, including the narration by a certain famous music critic who serves as a personality. The story that introduces “GENTLEMEN TAKE POLAROIDS” as “the latest album” is perfect for the times, but the most important thing is the live performance. Let’s check the show’s position from the schedule at that time. ●1980 [“GENTLEMEN TAKE POLAROIDS” released on October 24th]・November 27th: London performance ●1981 “POLAROIDS TOUR”・February 7th: London performance ←★This work★・February 15th-25th Sun: Japan (7 performances) “THE ART OF PARTIES TOUR” May 7th-17th/September 27th: UK (10 performances) [“TIN DRUM” released on November 13th] This is “GENTLEMEN TAKE POLAROIDS” JAPAN from “TIN DRUM”. After the release of “GENTLEMEN TAKE POLAROIDS”, he left for Japan after only performing two shows, and the Hammersmith performance of this work is one of them. It was a last-minute concert, like a warm-up, one week before coming to Japan. This work that recorded such a show is truly the finest stereo sound board. Since it is the prestigious British BBC, I would like to say that it is completely official… but it is a bit disappointing. There are no complaints in the first half of the program, but in the second half there is a lot of scratchy noise, and it increases towards the end (scratch noise on the broadcast master?). It’s not so intense that it’s unbearable to listen to, but unfortunately this time I didn’t go “updating the highest peak ever!” Of course, since it is the original master of a recording enthusiast, the basic quality is top notch, and there are no dubbing marks or tape deterioration. Although it is a shame, it is a beautiful live album. The sound depicts Japan running towards the climax. There is also an official live album “OIL ON CANVAS”, but this work was released 1 year and 8 months ago on another tour. Let’s compare and organize the sets here ●QUIET LIFE (3 songs)・Alien/Halloween・Songs that can’t be heard on OIL ON CANVAS: Alien/Quiet Life/Halloween ●GENTLEMEN TAKE POLAROIDS (6 songs)・Swing/ Gentlemen Take Polaroids/Methods of Dance ・Songs that cannot be heard on OIL ON CANVAS: My New Career/Taking Islands In Africa/Ain’t That Peculiar ●Other (2 songs) ・Songs that cannot be heard on OIL ON CANVAS: Rhodesia “OBSCURE ALTERNATIVES” /European Son…and it looks like this. A total of 11 songs will be broadcast on this program, but more than half of the songs that cannot be heard on “OIL ON CANVAS” are 7. Centered around the latest work at the time, “GENTLEMEN TAKE POLAROIDS,” you can enjoy plenty of delicious repertoire on the stereo sound board. Although it is not the highest peak ever, it is a masterpiece of a sufficiently wonderful soundboard live. “The radio album has been attracting attention in the UK amidst the recent futurist boom, or new romantic boom,” says the DJ. Live at Hammersmith Odeon, London, UK 7th February 1981 STEREO SBD From Original Off-Air Master Cassette (60:26) 1. DJ Intro 2. Swing 3. Gentlemen Take Polaroids 4. Alien 5. Rhodesia 6. Quiet Life 7.
