Description
This live show was held at a time when Garbarek’s magnificent sound full of originality was being perfected in the late 70’s, when he finally became active as a leader group and released the masterpiece “Wayfarer” that represented the 80’s. A great performance that perfectly captures this is now available! ! ! Following “Photo with Blue Sky~”, released in 1979 as the first Garbarek group to bear their own name, they released “Way” from ECM in 1983, with a completely new lineup except for bassist Eberhard Weber. In the midst of the recording of “Farrer,” a country that had been ruled in turn by Germany and France for centuries, The Garbarek Group’s concert was held on November 2, 1982 in Alsace, France, a historic region located in northeastern France on the plains along the Rhine River, where the cultures of both countries are mixed. A 2-disc set has arrived that was completely recorded for nearly 2 hours on the highest quality sound board that has been carefully mastered by the label! ! ! Although the members have changed since the late 1970s, the Garbarek group is still active. In the 1980s, Garbarek became the current template for the Garbarek Group, and even though the other sections changed, bassist Eberhard remained the cornerstone of the group’s sound and served as Garbarek’s right-hand man until he fell ill and became unable to perform. Weber, guitar player Bill Bill, who also plays the role of keyboard as the only Japanese musical instrument in the group. It was performed with an attractive line-up including Frisell, Gerry Mulligan, Zoot Sims, and drums/percussionist Michael Di Pasqua, who has participated in the recordings of ECM’s leading masters such as Garbarek, Ralph Towner, and Eberhard Weber. For this performance, the so-called Garbarek sound was completed. It was around this time that Garbarek was at the stage where he played the majestic saxophone with a confident and unique tone that you could immediately recognize as Garbarek’s, and Frisel played the guitar to express a fantastical world with a floating feeling, just like Garbarek. The trademark 5-string electric double bass, which is largely featured in Weber’s ever-changing bass, which creates a romantic world, and Pascua’s bold yet delicate drums and percussion, each with their own individuality, each of which is said to be one of a kind, but throughout the entire film, everyone’s hearts are united as one. It boasts a rich content that incorporates creative improvisation while forming a dramatic sound! In addition, Garbarek’s past representative songs “Dansere” and “Witchi-Tai-To”, which have been incorporated into the set list centered on new songs, will be revived with majestic performances as songs reborn with a deeper flavor!
