James Blood Ulmer James Blood Ulmer/Switzerland 08.28.2009

This is a soundboard recording of James Brad Ulmer’s performance at the Swiss Jazz Festival in 2009. He leads a group called the Blues Experience (although it’s a trio), and the live performance features his own vocals in a strong blues color. However, the guitar with the wah pedal that can be heard everywhere definitely has a harmolodic flavor. He also plays the flute, and as soon as the vocals disappear, it takes on a free jazz aspect. Overall, it is surrounded by relatively easy-to-listen-to blues and soul, but as expected of Ulmer, it is a unique performance. It is also perfect for an introduction to Ulmer. The sound quality is of official quality, but there are parts where noise that seems to be caused by Ulmer’s guitar enters, but once the performance starts, it becomes unnoticeable. This is a recommended title for those who like all black music, including blues, soul, funk, and of course jazz.
