The live session performance held at the Blue Note in New York from February 18 to 19, 1984 is almost completely recorded from the good audience master at the time. The cassette tape recorded at the venue at that time was miraculously unearthed in recent years, and it was recorded directly from the sound source. Especially on the second day, where two stages were held, the first set was 1 hour 29 minutes, and the second set was 11 hours 25 minutes, for a total of nearly three hours, and this precious live performance is completely reproduced. First of all, around this time, Gil Evans hosted regular live sessions at the jazz club, Seventh Avenue South, also in New York, from the beginning of the year until late March, and Jaco participated many times. Incidentally, he also performed at Seventh Avenue with David Sanborn and others on the 20th, the day after this. The first of these two nights, the 18th, was a warm-up for the next day with a simple lineup, but the 16-minute “Invitation” was a must-listen, totaling 45 minutes. The main show on the 19th was a big band with the members from the previous day joined by four percussionists, and the sound became thicker and more powerful. Again, there were medleys of “Nefertiti” and “Giant Steps,” each of which lasted more than 15 minutes, with Mike Stern playing his rugged and powerful guitar throughout, completing the two hot nights as the Word of Mouth Band with a powerful sound that you wouldn’t expect from a cassette recorder.
