Description
This is the first ever best recording of DeJohnette’s 70th birthday live performance, which was held in August 2012 at the Newport Jazz Festival with a stellar lineup, and was a big hit. The first two songs feature Jason Moran’s beautiful piano. Here too, Jason Moran’s piano has a strong presence and his flowing, aesthetic phrases are his true worth. The second half of the live performance features Jason Palmer on trumpet, Tim Rees on sax, and Lionel Loueke on guitar, and the performance of Luisito Quintero, a rare percussionist who is the pride of the NY Latin scene, is superb. DeJohnette is truly amazing for being able to bring together such a great lineup!
