Description

IRON MAIDEN will celebrate their 40th debut anniversary and 45th anniversary in 2020. The ultimate compilation album suitable for the anniversary year is born! The ultimate compilation from the Paul DiAnno era, “THE ULTIMATE COMPILATION 1978-1981” has become very popular, and this work is the second one following that. This time it’s a 4-disc set that covers studio rare tracks from the heyday of Bruce Dickinson! The Diano edition has been well-received by enthusiasts both domestically and internationally for its thorough research, top quality, and “fun to listen to” composition that was impossible to find in conventional rare track collections. It was a super masterpiece called “Ultimate”, and the concept remains unchanged in this work. Even though there is no such thing as a simply shortened edit version, it is a masterpiece that allows you to enjoy the official treasure studio recording with a total of 58 tracks and about 5 hours. You may be wondering, “Are there really that many rare trucks?” But there are. Let’s quickly introduce each disc. [DISC 1: Cover song collection (17 songs)] First of all, there is a collection of cover takes that were the highlight of past singles. In addition to all singles, it also includes “Space Truckin'”, which was included in the 2012 DEEP PURPLE tribute album “Re-MACHINED”. The cover is fresher than the other versions, and the performance and arrangement are worth listening to because the original exists first. This disc, which is a collection of them, is exactly the Maiden version of “GARAGE INC.” and “METAL JUKEBOX.” I’ve introduced “COVERSLAVE” before, but this time it’s limited to the blues era, so I’ll omit takes from the Diano and Blaze eras. Instead, “Reach Out” is also included. This song was written by Dave Colwell, a member of Adrian and Nico’s side project THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF HACKNEY. Strictly speaking, it’s not a cover but a provided song, but since it wasn’t penned by a MAIDEN member, I included it here. In addition, the following “That Girl” and “Juanita” are also from the same project’s repertoire, and the former was originally released by FM in competition with MAIDEN at about the same time (3 weeks ago), while the latter has no original recording by MARSHALL FURY. These three songs were all “friend song covers” written by members of THE ENTIRE POPULATION OF HACKNEY. [DISC 2: Collection of alternate versions (before Bruce left: 14 songs)] And discs 2-3 are the key to this work, “a collection of alternate versions of album songs”. Discs are divided properly according to time, and Disc 2 is a collection of 14 takes of different versions until Bruce left in 1993. It goes without saying that we’re covering single-only tracks here, but “Bring Your Daughter” is also a blues solo version provided for the movie, as well as “Wasting Love (Radio Mix)”, which is often overlooked, and the 1998 reissue. Also includes the longer version of “The Assassin” that was included on the CD. These two are different takes from the original, but for some reason they were uncredited on the official version. Even deeper is “From Here To Eternity (Demo Version)”. This is a take recorded on a promo cassette produced by US EPIC Records before the release of “FEAR OF THE DARK”, but this is a compilation of MAIDEN’s own band, not just MAIDEN. For that reason, even core collectors are not aware of it, but this is also a clear official take and not a leaked sound source. Unlike the final version, this is at a stage where there is no chorus in the hook. Although this is the only analog version in this work, it is recorded in the best version with a normal pitch. In addition, this work includes different versions of promo clips that have been overlooked in previous rare track collections. It also covers different versions that mix SE and live-style cheers according to the song image. Particularly cool is “Churchill’s Speech/Aces High (Camp Chaos Version).” Traditionally, the PV version has included Churchill’s speech, but this version also includes the sound of the formation flying (which is different from the engine startup sound used in live performances). In fact, the clip itself was not well-received for its anime-style visuals, but the audio was said to be “the coolest Aces High” by overseas enthusiasts. This work allows you to enjoy its supreme version as a studio album. [DISC 3: Collection of different versions (after Bruce’s return: 12 songs)] The following disc 3 is a “collection of different versions” after Bruce’s return. Of course the single track is complete here as well. It also completely covers the gorgeous and magnificent “Orchestral Mix” and the “Rock Mix” with a narrower orchestra. Also included is the blues version “Wrathchild (1999 Re-Recording)”, which was a hidden track only on the US edition “ED HUNTER”, and “The Wicker Man (Radio Version)”, which was only available on the promo CD. In particular, “The Wicker Man (Radio Version)” has a partner chorus added, and is a must-listen take that is said to be the “best rare track masterpiece” by enthusiasts. Also, completely covers different versions from the clips after the return. “Satellite 15 (World Tour Version)”, which was used at the opening of the tour, and “The Final Frontier (Director’s Cut)” with lines are cool, but “No More Lies (Promo Clip Mix)” is surprisingly a masterpiece. It’s a type of song that mixes cheers along with live video clips, but the level of perfection is amazing. An MC and a count were added, and on the other hand, during the chorus, the blues vocal track was removed to recreate the dialogue along with the audience’s chorus. Furthermore, the sound of the entire performance has been processed to sound like a live performance. It is so natural that even now there are many enthusiasts who believe it is a live performance, but it is actually a studio performance (it matches perfectly when played in sync with the album track). Moreover, this take is now valuable. It has not been made into a DVD, and is only released on an enhanced CD, a relic of the times. There are many collectors who own it but cannot play it now, and it is also a masterpiece version that is overlooked even on the official channels of video sites. [DISC 4: Studio live (8 songs) & non-album song collection (7 songs)] The last of the blockbuster 4-disc set is “studio live” and “non-album song”. Normally, “unrecorded songs” get the most attention, but in the case of MAIDEN, it’s a different story. There are many playful takes, which has caused the misunderstanding that “MAIDEN’s rare track collection is the best right now.” Even in this work, it feels like “I will save it permanently as a record at the end”, but on the contrary, the best thing is “studio live”. Why is this so cool? Even Bruce and Yannick concentrated on playing because there was no audience. You can enjoy crisp live music with great excitement. This work includes 3 types of studio live sessions and 8 songs. The first one was a warm-up rehearsal for the 2000 tour, and was included in the promo CD “BRAVE NEW WORLD SFX RADIO SPECIAL” which was broadcast on the radio. The second one was when he appeared on BBC RADIO 1’s “LEGENDS SESSION” in 2005. This is a take that was made official in the singles from the “A MATTER OF LIFE AND DEATH” era. The third session was when they appeared on the TV program “LIVE FROM ABBEY ROAD” the following year in 2006. Although it was not released as a CD by MAIDEN, “Hallowed By Thy Name” was included in the program’s compilation DVD “BEST OF SEASON 1”. Strictly speaking, this one song is the only official track, but the session itself has two songs in total, including “Brighter Than A Thousand Suns”. In this work, the complete version of the session was recorded. To begin with, MAIDEN is a band that performs a lot of stage lives, but has extremely few studio lives. Especially when it comes to “official connections from the blues era,” there are only these three types, and this work allows you to enjoy all of them at once. This is a treasure collection of 58 tracks and approximately 4 hours and 52 minutes. A “cover collection” that should have been made into an official album, a “alternative version collection” that is as gorgeous as a best-of album but different from the original songs, and a “studio live collection” that is sharper than the regular live album, to make your collection perfect. “Songs not included in the album”…. There are no stage live performances with a different atmosphere or sloppy edited versions. Instead, it is a hidden treasure encyclopedia that thoroughly covers “studio work”. I think there are probably many people who are excited by the names of unheard tracks, but I would like you to enjoy each disc at a time, as well as snacking on them. This work is also a studio album that pursues the “feel of the work” with a composition that narrows down the concept and mastering that unifies the disparate sounds from various sources. The latest take in this work is “Space Truckin’” released in 2012 (recorded in 2006). Eight years later (perhaps because the demand for single B-sides and compilations decreased drastically), there were no more rare tracks. Maybe MAIDEN’s rare songs will never be created again. As of 2020, this work, which is a collection of “studio treasures from the blues era”, is truly a super definitive album. UP THE IRONS!! Disc 1: COVER SONGS (70:12) 1. I’ve Got The Fire [MONTROSE] 2.
