Description
The “very special” live album in the history of IRON MAIDEN is now available on 2CDs! In the first place, IRON MAIDEN is highly planned, and their nightly shows are highly complete, with very few surprise guests or changes to the set list. We are a band with almost no “special” live shows. but! This work is an exception among the exceptions. Bruce Dickinson sings “Purgatory,” “Twilight Zone,” and “Innocent Exile”! It’s a full live album in which he sings only the songs “Maiden of Steel” and “Killers”!! The biggest point of this work is the sound and live performance, but before that, this special live album. Let me introduce the background. It all started in August 1981. Paul Deano felt the pressure of his first world tour, which included the United States, and began to drink alcohol. The band decided that Paul would not be able to withstand a long tour, so they toured Europe with him and began searching for a replacement. On August 29th, at the Reading Festival, we will be lining up Bruce Dickinson of SAMSON. After that, Paul left the band after touring until Copenhagen on September 10th, and Bruce joined. The new IRON MAIDEN, which welcomed the blues, booked a 5-day tour of Italy in order to perfect the combination with the blues. This work is an audience album that contains the final day of the Italian tour, “Milan performance on October 30, 1981,” and is one of the highest sound quality and longest recordings of the tour. This Italian tour is part of the “KILLER WORLD TOUR 1981”, and of course the set list is limited to the Diano era repertoire of “Steel Virgin” and “Killers”. It was a live show where the blues, just like the SAMSON era, roared in beast mode. This Italian tour will have a total of 5 performances. Let’s check the schedule here. ・October 26, 1981 Bologna performance (Blues’ first stage) ・October 27, 1981 Rome performance ・October 28, 1981 Florence performance ・October 29, 1981 Padua performance ・October 30, 1981 Milan performance [This work]… There are excellent audience recordings for all of these five days, but the Milan performance of this work has been famous for a long time, and some recordings were traded as soundboards. It is a beloved standard that has produced many previous releases such as “BREAKING IN BRUCE”, “THE NUMBER OF THE KILLERS (date is wrong in credit)”, “INNOCENT EXILE”, “INCOMING”, “DEFINITIVE YEARS IV”, etc. This work is the big decision board! Directly digitized from recently unearthed Low Generation analog tapes, the freshness and length have been significantly upgraded! There were previously released titles that slowed down the tape speed or increased the volume and made it into a two-disc set, but this work is the longest version of the live version alone, over 84 minutes. From “The Ides of March” to “I’ve Got The Fire,” the entire show is completely recorded. Of course, not only the length, but also the sound is the best ever. “The Ides of March” at the beginning feels a little rounded, but as soon as the live performance begins, it is no wonder that it is mistaken for a sound board, and the powerful direct feeling and clarity spread all at once. It was a great sound from the previous release, but the freshness and freshness unique to Low Gene was added to it. This Italian tour’s 5 performances have a high quality recording that can be called abnormal, but it is outstanding and wonderful! Not only the blues, but also the Paul era, it is one of the best sound quality in the early 80’s. Although I can no longer easily claim that he is “No. 1 on tour”…) Especially in the second half, even though I know it’s an audience recording, I still think it’s a soundboard. The sound of each cymbal is very direct and sharp, and the sound is not distorted at all. The sound is like a shining metallic luster. This is the fifth show since Bruce joined the band with such a sound. The songs for “Magical Mark” have not been written yet, and the entire album is filled with blues versions of “Steel Virgin” and “Killers.” In particular, the three songs “Purgatory”, “Twilight Zone” and “Innocent Exile” were not played after “BEAST ON THE ROAD 1982”, and the blues version is extremely valuable. In particular, “Purgatory” is Bruce’s last performance (for now). Moreover, it is not only valuable, but the worldview of the entire show is wonderful. The performance is fast and aggressive, just like in Paul’s era. IRON MAIDEN was said to be “punk metal” by the people involved, but the blues in beast mode screams and screams! Scream!! Their passion is directed not only at the audience but also at the band members, as they scream, as if to say, “I’m going to prove my strength to these guys.” One of the appeals of blues is singing blockbusters in a dramatic manner, but here he breaks through with a thoroughly aggressive shout. Ian Gillan from the “IN ROCK” era is also very impressive. Of course, if the band’s enthusiastic performance is ultimately fueled by the blues, the enthusiasm of the Italians is also amazing. It doesn’t block the direct musical sound, but between songs, a tsunami of furious cheers floods in. “Parareed”, which was the venue, is a medium-sized venue with a capacity of 5,000 people, but the excitement was similar to that of MONSTERS OF ROCK or ROCK IN RIO. In particular, the scene where they are waiting for the encore makes me wonder, “Did the broadcaster dub too much whistling?” Of course, since it is an audience recording, there can be no overdubs, and it is 100% genuine enthusiasm. It was a scene that was significantly cut in the previous release, but I never expected it to cause so much enthusiasm… IRON MAIDEN, no, even though there are many live recordings, I have never heard a recording that has such a super clear musical tone and super enthusiasm together… No, it’s really amazing. That’s right, Killer Gig! The main part of the live performance alone ended up being long. This work also includes three bonus blues audition tapes: “Twilight Zone,” “Wrathchild,” and “Killers.” Of course, this is Bruce’s first recording of IRON MAIDEN. This is also a famous recording for a long time, but it is also the highest quality ever that makes many previous recordings out of the question. IRON MAIDEN welcomes the blues and opens the door to the world wide open. This work is a masterpiece that captures the moment of rebirth. A heavy mental monster who fiercely exudes the scent of NWOBHM that is ingrained in his body, but tries to break through its limits with aggression. It is true that the blues versions of “Purgatory”, “Twilight Zone” and “Innocent Exile” are the highlights, but it is such a transcendent live that you will completely forget about that. A live album with extremely rare songs, a turning point in history, a passionate performance and an audience… all of which can be heard with the best sound ever. Absolutely special super powerful record that is unique in the entire history of IRON MAIDEN. I would like to introduce it to you with all my heart and soul!
