Description
The most important title from the Paul Di’Anno era has reached its final evolution! This Final Edition 3CD release includes unexpectedly additional tracks and newly discovered upgraded masters! This work features approximately three hours of official soundboard footage. This three-disc set includes all official rare takes, excluding “Steel Maiden” and “Killers,” all mastered together. While the previous release with a similar title was a huge success, selling out and being discontinued, this release features even more takes. The structure has also been revamped, making this the final version that clearly shows the band’s evolution chronologically. Let’s take a look at each individual disc. DISC 1: 1978/1979 Sessions. This final edition is divided chronologically into three discs. DISC 1 compiles four studio sessions conducted before the album’s debut. In addition to the core trio of Steve Harris, Paul Di’Anno, and Dave Murray, Doug Sampson plays drums. Side guitars vary from session to session. December 31, 1978: “THE SOUNDHOUSE TAPES” Sessions (4 songs; Side guitar: Paul Cairns) First up is IRON MAIDEN’s first studio recording, the legendary “THE SOUNDHOUSE TAPES” sessions, produced at Spaceward Studios. This is a classic rare track, but this album focuses on sound quality and has not included the original EP, but rather the official CD reissue (CSK 56882) that was released only once in 2002. This official CD was only available to those who purchased the entire remaster series, and was limited to 666 copies. Furthermore, it was an extremely rare CD that only fans living in the United States could apply for. In addition, the outtake “Strange World,” which was recorded but not included in the “THE SOUNDHOUSE TAPES” sessions, is also included in the digital version of “THE BEST OF THE BEAST.” October 24, 1979: “METAL FOR “MUTHAS” Sessions (2 songs: Side guitar = Tony Parsons) Next up is the session at Manchester Square. These are two tracks, “Sanctuary” and “Wrathchild”, recorded for the compilation album “METAL FOR MUTHAS”. Again, these are not from the analog LP of the time, but taken from the 1996 CD single, which has been properly treated with official mastering. Tony Parsons is on guitar in this session, and it is the genuine original version, different from the remake on the album. “Wrathchild” in particular is a take with a strong NWOBHM flavour that would have been perfect even if it had been included on “The Steel Maiden”. November 14, 1979: “FRIDAY ROCK SHOW” Sessions (4 songs: Side guitar = Tony Parsons) The third session is also from Tony Parsons’ time. This is a studio session for an appearance on the BBC’s famous programme “FRIDAY ROCK SHOW”. Here we take a look at the out-of-print box set “EDDIE’S Recorded from the best version of “AXE ATTACK!” ARCHIVE. November 25th/26th 1979: Wessex Studios (★Upgraded!) (2 songs: no side guitar) The last track on DISC 1 is a session at “Wessex Studios” that took place 11 days after the “FRIDAY ROCK SHOW” sessions. In the short space of time, Parsons had left the band, and Dave Murray was now playing single guitar. The tracks recorded were “Burning Ambition” and “Running Free.” The former, “Burning Ambition,” has become a staple of rare track collections as a single B-side. The latter, “Running Free (German/French Single Version),” was a version that was mistakenly included only on the first pressing of the compilation album “AXE ATTACK!”, but was actually also included on the German/French single “Running Free.” And this “Running Free (German/French Single Version)” The biggest point of this album is the “Transylvania” take. It’s an upgraded master that’s different from the previous releases, and the sound is completely different! The cloudiness and turbidity are instantly cleared, and the contours are clearly defined. Although it’s an analog transcription, there’s no needle popping or warping, and it’s been permanently preserved with the same quality as the official digital “Burning Ambition.” Note: There is also a bootleg that claims to be “Transylvania” from this session, but recent research has revealed that it’s a different take. It seems that the “FRIDAY ROCK SHOW” session mentioned above was mistakenly misinterpreted and circulated as a “Generation” version. DISC 2: The Dennis Stratton Era DISC 2 replaces the Dennis Stratton era, and contains official rare tracks from the period after Clive Burr and Dennis Stratton joined the band. In other words, it contains official rare tracks from the debut album “Steel Maiden” era. This period is also divided into five sections, so let’s introduce each one. Single Tracks (4 Tracks) First, the B-side tracks of the singles. The basics of rare compilations include “Sanctuary (Single Version)” and “Invasion (Single Version).” In addition to “Women In Uniform (Alternate Mix)” and “Women In Uniform,” the album also includes the mysterious track “Women In Uniform (Alternate Mix),” which is known only to those in the know. This was officially released in 2015 in conjunction with the vinyl 7-inch reissue series. Compared to the take familiar from the CD single and music video, this version lacks the introductory side guitar and has a louder chorus. It’s so different you’ll recognize it instantly, yet it’s uncredited, making it a true “hidden treasure.” This is also released on CD from the official digital track, rather than a vinyl transcription. February 20, 1980: “TOP OF THE POPS” session (1 song) Next is “Running Free,” performed on the BBC TV show “TOP OF THE POPS.” This show is based on mime, but Maiden’s famous anecdote of “We won’t perform unless they let us do it live” is well-known. This release also includes the DVD “THE EARLY This CD is based on the official take from “DAYS.” April 3, 1980: Marquee Club Performance (2 songs) Finally, a recording of a passionate live performance in front of fans. This is the official Marquee Club soundboard. While the credits were unclear at the time, there were actually two versions of the 1980 Marquee Live: “April 3” and “July 4.” Since each version was assigned separately to various international singles, this has been a source of confusion for a long time. First, we have the two tracks from the “April 3” single, “Drifter” and “I’ve Got the Fire,” from the “Sanctuary” single. July 4, 1980: Marquee Club Performance (3 songs + 1 new song!!) Next are the four tracks from the “July 4” performance. The three tracks, “Sanctuary,” “Phantom of the Opera,” and “Drifter,” were digitized from the phantom EP “LIVE!!+ ONE,” which has yet to be officially released on CD. And the remaining tracks, “Iron Maiden” “(“20th Century Box” Version)” is a newly recorded track that is sure to be a big hit! In fact, the live performance on this day was professionally filmed, and some of it was broadcast on the documentary program “20th Century Box.” Of the tracks used, “Phantom Of The Opera” and “Drifter” were shorter than those on “LIVE!!+ ONE” and were only used as background music, but “Iron Maiden” was used almost in its entirety. Since this is a collection of official takes, broadcast recordings are not included, but the “20th Century Box” became official when it was included on the DVD “THE EARLY DAYS.” This work has also been made into a CD from official takes. August 23, 1980: Reading Festival Performance (6 songs) The last track on DISC 2 is a live take from Reading Festival. The out-of-print box set “EDIIE’S This recording is from the “Top of the Pops Archive.” It’s a fantastic live performance, full of the flavor of New Wave Hard Rock Music, with a wild performance that doesn’t care about mistakes, the explosive excitement of their first big stage performance, and “Killers” with tentative lyrics. DISC 3: The Adrian Smith Era The final disc, Disc 3, features official rare tracks from the “Killers” era after Adrian Smith joined the band. Each disc features a different member, allowing you to enjoy each era in its own way. Single Tracks (1 song) Disc 3 also starts with a single take. This is “Twilight Zone,” the first release after Adrian joined the band. The “Top of the Pops” session from November 12, 1980 (1 song) continues with “Women In Uniform,” from “Top of the Pops,” the band’s first live performance after Adrian joined the band (his first gig was four days earlier at “Rock & Pop,” where he performed as a mime). Also, “Women In” “Uniform” was only performed live twice, and this work allows you to enjoy it with a completely official soundboard. December 21, 1980: Rainbow Theater performance (6 songs + α) Stereo soundboard audio from the official video “AT THE RAINBOW”, produced immediately after the recording of “Killers”. Until now, there was a semi-professional NWOBHM smell, but with the right talent, they grew rapidly. You can suddenly enjoy a stage with a worldwide sense of scale. May 23, 1981: Nagoya Welfare Pension Hall performance (5 songs) The finale of this work is the super-famous EP “MAIDEN JAPAN”. Including the Japanese version, the standard version of “MAIDEN” “MAIDEN JAPAN” contained four tracks, but North America and several other countries had a five-track version with the addition of “Wrathchild.” This release, of course, follows the longest North American version, using the 1995 Castle reissue, the only official digital release, and once again achieves the highest quality. This is an official treasure trove spanning 43 tracks and 2 hours, 56 minutes, and 8 seconds. DISC 1 contains the complete “70s MAIDEN” from before their debut, DISC 2 contains a complete collection of takes not included on “Steel Maiden” and “Killers,” and DISC 3 contains the complete collection of “70s MAIDEN” from before their debut, DISC 4 contains the complete collection of takes not included on “Steel Maiden” and “Killers,” and DISC 5 contains the complete collection of “70s MAIDEN” from before their debut, DISC 6 contains the complete collection of takes not included on “Steel Maiden” and “Killers.” This is the ultimate compilation of all the official rare tracks from the Paul Di’Anno era, meticulously crafted down to the documentary’s background music.
