Description
A rare recording of a live performance in London, shortly after the release of their fourth album, “Newburys,” has arrived! This rare recording features a high-quality stereo audience recording of a live performance at the Hammersmith Odeon in London on June 8, 1979, from the “Newburys UK/European Tour,” which was undertaken to coincide with the release of their fourth album, “Newburys,” produced by James Williamson. While the sound image is a little rough with a slightly over-leveled feel, it delivers a stable yet powerful sound. Additionally, the pitch and stereo positioning discrepancies, which were roughly off by nearly one note due to the master recording, have been carefully corrected. This live performance was held during a European tour, featuring Tangerine Dream’s Klaus Krieger, also a recording member of “Newburys,” on drums, Jackie Clarke on guitar, Glen Matlock of the Sex Pistols on bass, and Scott Thurston on keyboards, guitar, and harp. The set list included three songs from “Newburys,” including “Fortune Teller” by Benny Spellman, known for his covers of songs by the Rolling Stones and the Who, and a medley of “New Values.” It also included “Kill City,” a collaboration with James Williamson, “Down on the Street,” featuring harp by Scott, who previously played with the Stooges, a faithful cover of the original, “Batman Theme,” and a cover of Solomon Berg’s classic R&B hit “Everybody Needs Somebody to Love.” Of course, it also included some Stooges numbers!
