Description
This incredibly rare 1978 live performance at Maxxis, led by Jerry Nolan’s Idles, is fully recorded from a high-quality stereo audience master! Formed by former New York Dolls and Heartbreakers drummer Jerry Nolan with Steve Dior and Barry Jones, Idles later evolved into the London Cowboys. The band featured former New York Dolls member Arthur Cain on bass and was known for backing Sid Vicious’ solo shows. Their short lifespan was short, with only one single released. This release features a rare, complete recording of a two-stage gig at Maxxis Kansas City on August 15th, 1978, from a high-quality stereo audience master! Digitally transferred directly from the master cassette, the sound quality is exceptional for the time, with a wide range and exceptional balance across all parts, including the vocals. Any pitch imperfections inherent in the master have been carefully corrected. While the intro to the first set’s opener, “Bigger Splash,” is missing, the rest of the recording is complete. It includes the band’s only single, “You” and “Girl That I Love,” released the following year, as well as two demo tracks from the track record that later made it onto a London Cowboys compilation CD. Also included are “Centerfold,” which was later reprised by London Cowboys, and “Take A Chance,” a Jerry-penned track also familiar to the Heartbreakers and released on Jerry Nolan’s solo 7-inch in 1982, along with its coupling track, “Pretty Baby.” This is a must-listen, hidden live documentary for anyone interested in Idles and London Cowboys!
