Description
In 1979, Ian Hunter was in the midst of a huge success, releasing the masterpiece “Instigator of Violence” with his ally Mick Ronson. Now, here comes a soundboard album that will let you experience that live performance in your mind. This work was recorded at the “June 12, 1979 Roslyn Concert.” It is a stereo soundboard recording. Speaking of the 1979 live performance, the official classic “Welcome to the Club” is undoubtedly the most iconic, and the 30th anniversary deluxe edition of “Instigator of Violence” also included a live disc. However, this album is a completely different performance that does not overlap with either of those. To understand the situation, let’s first take a bird’s-eye view of their activities at the time. “Instigator of Violence” released on March 27th: June 10th: New Haven performance * June 12th: Roslyn performance ←★This work★ June 13th-17th: North America (4 performances) * June 18th: Cleveland performance ←※7 official songs June 19th-July 5th: North America (10 performances) * July 7th: Berkeley performance ←※2 official songs July 8th-November 3rd: North America (45 performances) * November 5th-11th: North America (7 performances) ←※Official WELCOME TO THE CLUB * November 22nd: London performance ←※5 official songs A newly discovered pre-FM master that updates the highest peak. This is Ian Hunter in 1979. The final performance was at Hammersmith Odeon in his native England, but all others were North American-only. The Roslyn performance in this work was the second performance of the tour, earlier than any of the official live works. This show is also known for its FM broadcast, and this release is its latest and greatest update. It was digitized directly from the recently released pre-FM soundboard master. In fact, the sound is the best ever. Compared to the official “WELCOME TO THE CLUB,” the mix balance has a vivid, one-shot feel, but the soundboard’s richness, with all instruments super clear and beautifully separated, is fully open. Above all, it’s beautiful. As a pre-FM master that has never even been on the airwaves, let alone dubbed, there’s no reception noise or distortion like with previous masters, and the entire show is smooth, lustrous, and extremely stable. Even though it’s a pre-FM soundboard, the cheers are perfectly mixed, allowing you to fully experience the intense heat of a club gig. A pinnacle work that pairs with WELCOME TO THE CLUB. Such a superb pre-FM sound depicts a stage that is similar but not identical to “WELCOME TO THE CLUB.” Let’s organize the album by comparing it with the “Instigator of Violence” and the Dela Eddie live disc. Instigator of Violence (6 songs): Life After Death (★), Ships (★*), Standin’ In My Light (*), Bastard, Just Another Night, Cleveland Rocks. Others (4 songs + 2 songs): Mott the Hoople era: Laugh at Me, All the Way From Memphis (incl. Jumpin’ Jack Flash), Angeline (*), All the Young Dudes. Others: F.B.I., Once Bitten, Twice Shy. Note: Tracks marked with a “★” were not included on the traditional “Welcome to the Club” album. Tracks marked with a “*” were not included on the 30th anniversary deluxe edition of “Instigator of Violence.” While “Welcome to the Club” was compiled from multiple shows towards the end of the tour, this album is a soundboard album shot in one take at the very start of the tour, just the second show. Despite being set in contrasting environments, this is a new masterpiece from the golden age that pairs with the official masterpiece. This stereo soundboard recording of the “June 12, 1979 Roslyn Concert” is a top-of-the-line update directly digitized from the pre-FM soundboard master, offering a smooth, lustrous, and stable sound throughout. “Life After Death” and “Ships,” not included on “WELCOME TO THE CLUB,” are also delicious, making this a new masterpiece from the golden age that pairs with the official work.
