Description
Another genius born in Brazil, along with Gismonti. Although he is not talked about much in Japan, Brazil is famous worldwide as a treasure trove of other amazing musicians, including Airto. Perhaps it is because of the national character of Japan, but I feel that people with multiple talents are less highly rated than those who excel in one skill. This is true of Americans Bob Brookmeyer and Victor Feldman, and perhaps Kirk as well. Some time ago, an interview with the world’s best drummer, Steve Gadd, was published in a magazine, and in it, in response to the question, “Which player influenced you the most?” Gadd made an interesting statement: “The drumming that impressed me the most was Chick Corea’s in the recording of “Three Quartet.” The same goes for Otani from Angels, Gismonti mentioned earlier, and Hermeto. Multiplayer players need to be more highly rated… but let’s get back to the main topic. This It is a superb high quality stereo soundboard recording of a live performance, probably from 2000, by Hermeto, who plays many instruments and has also released a wonderful piano solo masterpiece on analog, a 2-disc set, although it is difficult to obtain. Hermeto plays all piano except for a few melodica, and is accompanied by Brazil’s best rhythm section, Santo on bass and Nene on drums, and weaves piano playing aggressively and lyrically, with vivid contrasts between stillness and movement, in this superb piano trio live recording that you can enjoy without any preconceived notions!
